About Thomas King
As a purpose-led entrepreneur, leader and speaker, I've spent 13 years driving social and systems change to benefit people and our planet. Through strategy, program design, communication, and relational influence, I enjoy engaging and enlisting decision-makers in key initiatives; building synergistic partnerships; and securing philanthropic, government and/or corporate investment. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: After spending my early years leading environmental and humanitarian initiatives across five continents, I founded and built the independent think tank on alternative proteins, Food Frontier, and still serve as founder and Chair. I’m fortunate to have received a Young Australian of the Year VIC award, a Myer Innovation Fellowship, and been named CommBank Sustainable Entrepreneur of the Year. I’ve spoken at 100+ conferences, schools and summits since 2014 – from Milan to Jakarta to New York – including on-stage conversations with former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, Dr Jane Goodall DBE, and HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed. My story has been profiled across ABC TV’s One Plus One, Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Weekend, and The Weekend Australian.THE LAST SIX YEARS: I founded and built the think tank Food Frontier, increasing income six-fold in five years, hiring and leading a team of 10 FTE, and assembling and chairing an esteemed and diverse Board of Directors. Among various initiatives, I developed the strategy for and oversaw execution of studies and subsequent publications generating world-first insights that reached 76m+ people through the media. We have also engaged in partnerships with the likes of Deloitte, Austrade, Compass Group, the National Farmers Federation, and the Victorian Government, and our annual conference is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. I now also work part-time to grow effective giving in Australia with Giving What We Can.THE FIRST SIX YEARS: I helped lead various purpose-led projects spanning five continents, including: representing Australia’s youth in the Arctic for a film screened at IMAX and the COP21 Paris Climate Summit; leading communications for a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign that raised $1.6M for poverty alleviation in Cambodia and Papua New Guinea; directing an award-winning short film on social change featuring Dr Jane Goodall; participating in a program working with indigenous communities on rainforest conservation in Borneo; and volunteering as a journalist at the London Olympic Games to tell the stories of athletes from disadvantaged Pacific Island communities.

Founder & Chair
Food Frontier is the independent think tank on alternative proteins in our region. Funded by grants and donations, we seek to advance dialogue and decision-making to accelerate the market development of sustainable, protein-rich foods. Evidence shows that plant-derived, fermented, and cell-cultivated proteins can grow our region's protein supply while bringing value to consumers, businesses, and farmers, and we believe Australia and New Zealand can lead the way.Since 2017, Food Frontier's reports, resources and events—produced in collaboration with the likes of Deloitte, Austrade, Compass Group, and the National Farmers Federation—have engaged tens-of-thousands of business leaders, policymakers and innovators, helping build knowledge, facilitate partnerships, influence strategy, and stimulate new investment. Our economic, market, consumer, environmental and nutrition research has informed a suite of policies and plans, and reached an estimated 100 million people via the media.
