Formerly, a leading practitioner in bankruptcy and capital markets law and currently an investor in distressed transactions, Thomas Elias Felsberg has structured, negotiated and closed large international transactions, both as attorney-of-record and as a principal investor. Today, as CEO of Hilco do Brasil, Thomas is recognized as one of that nation’s foremost authorities on Recuperação Judicial, the Brazilian equivalent of U.S. Chapter 11 bankruptcy workout. He brings both an international perspective and local expertise to distressed transactions and special situation opportunities originating in Brazil as well as internationally.Prior to joining Hilco Global, Thomas was managing partner of the New York office of Felsberg Advogados, the São Paulo, Brazil-based law firm founded in 1970 by his father, Thomas Benes Felsberg. Over the years, Felsberg Advogados became Brazil’s largest and most experienced law form focused on complex business transactions, such as privatizations, project finance, corporate restructurings and distressed M&A. The firm was at the forefront of virtually all of Brazil’s most important restructuring and bankruptcy cases, including Varig, Bombril, Parmalat, Mabe, Lupatech, Grupo Rede, Celpa, OSX and OGX.Thomas is a graduate of Duke University School of Law (Durham, NC) and Mackenzie University Law School (São Paulo, Brazil). He earned academic and leadership distinctions at both schools.
