Assigned to work on Google’s AdWords product on a siloed team and in collaboration with multiple teams worldwide, requiring cross-functional work and ability to negotiate buy-in from diverse teams. AdWords is a GWT application (Java translated to and executed as JavaScript in the browser) that generates HTML on the fly inside of the browser for instant rendering, with performance being critical. Projects included front-end work for topics tab, display tab, brand advertising, and keyword tool. * Contributed to development of AdWords tabs for targeting ads on the display network. Initial project was to build a reporting table with URLs where an ad was displayed, then became internal SME for table library. Ran deep queries to analyze user behavior due to potential multi-million dollar significance of small UI changes. The display tab launch was hailed as a top ten accomplishment in Google Ads. * Led engineering team and design for the AdWords display tab 2.0 project that included enhancements and introduced “negative targeting” to primary UI. Received best performance score of tenure after this project. Member of keyword tool team focused on the table library. Met with Chrome browser team and an expert on visually impaired users to design and implement improved scrolling and ensured compatibility with screen readers. Collaborated with Microsoft Internet Explorer engineers to analyze and resolve a bug. * Contributed to AdWords infrastructure library and GWT/GIN open source library in Java that are critical to AdWords. * Hosted two Princeton students as summer interns and managed their onboarding and project efforts for their full Google experience. Bumper Crop was a realistic farm simulation game for Facebook (“Simcity meets Farmville” with crops, seeds, weeds).* Teamed with a Bay Area illustrator to create all game environments and visual elements, with 400 illustrations and 400 code classes. Developed extensive analytics to observe player behavior. * Managed Apache/Tomcat configuration and wrote monitoring scripts. Rejoined former Movielink team as a consultant to develop video on demand services. * Developed a desktop app to purchase and watch movies online using .NET and WPF. The project was part of Microsoft’s .NET 3.5 SP1 early adopter program, leading to face time with core WPF engineers in Redmond and direct feedback for new WPF features.* Created SOA that enabled users to buy and watch movies on connected TV’s via remote control. Integrated efforts of Blockbuster, Samsung, and DRM/Content Delivery Network partners with overseas contractors. Shipped 800K TVs and Blu-Ray devices with the software, doubling prior transaction volume.

Originally founded Play Posse to build an online directory and business tools for recreational teachers (e.g. yoga, dance, karate).* Developed an online service from scratch including business plan, requirements, architecture, design of visual elements, production system configuration, and marketing. Built features including back office management with TurboTax integration, a student social network, event directories, a template-driven site generator, and contact management in Java, Spring, Hibernate, and Lucene. * Built a custom wiki using javaCC to write a compiler for the wiki syntax.

Movielink was a joint venture of the five major film studios and was acquired by Blockbuster in 2007. * Led project teams of up to 30 people to build a pioneering online movie distribution platform using Java, ATG Commerce, Oracle, and Hibernate/Spring. * Created and reviewed designs, established work structures, led code reviews, implemented coding style best practices, and solved complex performance and multi-threading issues. * Trained team members and developed interview tests and hiring standards. * Development projects included staged database deployment, geolocation filtering, browser capabilities detection, metadata management, digital movie license delivery (Real and WMP), credit card processing, and Paypal integration.
