Tom is the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Smart Cafe Holdings, Inc., a privately held start-up company. Smart Cafe is a next-generation automated hot food vending company that delivers hot and delicious meals to consumers 24/7.

Tom is the founder, CEO, and Managing Member of APK Acquisition, a privately held financial holding company focused on acquiring, licensing, and selling automation technology.

Tom served as CEO through the earn-out period after the sale of Verde Energy USA to Via Renewables (FKA Spark Energy, Inc.).

Tom co-founded and served as CEO of Verde Energy USA until its successful exit to Via Renewables, Inc. (FKA Spark Energy), a publicly traded energy company. Under his leadership, Tom forged an integrated financial and supplier relationship with Shell Energy North America and rapidly grew into a leading retail energy company.

Tom served as a Board member and Strategic Adviser of TnT Expense Management, LLC, from 2005 until the company's sale to Vodafone Global Entreprise in October 2010.

Tom served as Managing Director of Goodrich Capital, a financial advisory services firm specializing in raising capital for early-stage and expansion-stage companies in the United States and Europe through its exclusive US membership in the euroMerger organization.

Tom served as the Company's CFO and financial advisor and successfully raised equity capital of $15.5M to build out and expand its business model. The Company was a start-up health and chronic disease management media and information company focused on aggregating chronic disease-specific populations as consumer affinity groups.

The Company and its institutional investors recruited Tom to co-lead a late-stage turnaround and evaluate strategic alternatives.Tom's leadership brought significant financial improvements by expanding revenue by 55% and EBITDA by more than $10M in 2003; delivered annual cost savings of $10M by restructuring the Company's operations; and structured and negotiated a "stalking-horse" bid to maximize the sale proceeds of assets.

Tom was recruited by the Company, its Institutional investors, and two of its strategic investors to co-lead the turnaround and restructure the business. Tom's leadership brought significant financial improvements and secured key strategic and banking partnerships. He successfully restructured long-term repayment agreements totaling $125 million with significant creditors, negotiated unsecured revolving working capital loans totaling $20 million with three major banks, and positioned the company with a major investment bank to evaluate strategic financing alternatives.

Tom was recruited by the newly hired CFO, a former C&L Executive Partner, to lead and restructure its Corporate Audit and risk function and implement global risk assessment and mitigation strategies. Tom was instrumental in implementing a COSO-based internal control program, conducting internal audit best practices, and conducting more than 60 first-time operational and financial audits, resulting in more than 400 recommendations that improved corporate governance and internal controls.

In 1966, Nielsen (ACNielsen) was spun off by The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation as one of three public companies.Tom led and supported the company’s IPO and turnaround strategies. He also developed a global financial and management reporting strategy and implemented critical financial projects for over 180 reporting entities in 65 countries.

Tom was responsible for financial and management reporting, accounting controls, corporate treasury and tax planning activities coordination, business planning and analysis, and capital budgeting for European, Asian, and Latin American divisions. Led and mentored 15 multilingual finance professionals; designed and implemented a multi-currency financial and management reporting system for reporting financial results in accordance with US GAAP for more than 180 reporting entities in 65 countries; and conducted due diligence and integration of 10+ acquisitions resulting in incremental $300 million annual revenueTom received the Chief Operating Officer's Global Reach Award for Leadership and Innovation in 1994.

Tom directed and led multiple global assignments with audit teams comprised of 2-10 individuals. Conducted and managed over 50 audits and special inquiries in 20 countries, which resulted in over 1,000 recommendations strengthening internal controls, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, and improving the efficiency of operations.
