Policy advisor for the independent VARIO Council Members that formulate advice for the Flemish Government and the Flemish Parliament on all matters related to research, development, innovation and entrepreneurship.

- Principal Investigator for the research team on optical fibre technology with 6 PhD students, 2 junior and 1 senior postdoc. I pivoted the application domains away from the oil- and gas industry to offshore wind infrastructure, structural health monitoring, smart energy networks and biomedical probes. I facilitated the organic growth of my research team from 2 to 10 co-workers and from ~100kEUR annual research budget to >1MEUR between 2011 and 2021.- Member of the 'Operational Review Board' that steers and monitors the policy and activities of the renowned research department VUB B-PHOT (Brussels Photonics) with >70 employees including administrative and technical personnel, junior and senior researchers, business developers and professors.- Lecturer for the 'Optical Sensors' course within the interuniversity (VUB-UGent) Master of Science in Photonics Engineering and co-lecturer for the 1st Bachelor course 'Waves and Electromagnetism' (general physics).
