About Thos O'Brien
Research scientist with early stage drug discovery experience and project management experience. Currently responsible for cell line engineering at Omnispirant Therapeutics, engineering Stem Cells to deliver novel cargoes via Extracellular Vesicles. Previously worked in the Centre for Chromosome Biology in the University of Galway under the supervision of Dr. Robert Lahue, developing a new cell based in vitro assay for detecting tri-nucleotide expansions. Was a project leader at Charles River Laboratories in their GMP accredited Biosafety, Cell Based Assays and Virology Department. Responsible for the project management of GMP standard tech transfers of new assays from commercial clients. Previously worked at Fusion Antibodies, developing a mammalian display platform for antibody discovery. Worked at the Roche Innovation Centre Zurich (Roche Glycart) in the cell and molecular technology department, developing biological tools to support the ongoing research there. Engineering tumor cell lines, immune cells and organoids via viral systems and transposon systems, as well as CRISPR engineering to create knock outs and for targetted integration of transgenes. Experienced in 2d and 3d cell culture. My work history to date has had a large emphasis on the following topics: early stage biologics drug discovery, mammalian cell line engineering and cell culture, genomics, biomedical imaging, medical devices spectroscopy, optics, biochemistry and regenerative medicine. I have been exposed to many different technical fields and have performed very well in them. I am a person who contributes positively to any professional environment.I am always happy to make new connections on LinkedIn.

Research Associate
Working under Dr. Bob Lahue to develop a tri-nucleotide repeat expansion assay as part as of project with other academic and commercial partners.
Project Leader
In a GMP environment, responsible for drawing up study plans and implementing the studies, researching and developing new methodologies as per client requirements or tech transfer of existing client processes onsite. Also responsible for stakeholder management, contributing to the generation of new quotations for clients and managing weekly and monthly sales figures for various studies.
Senior Scientist Library Discovery
Developing and scaling up a mammalian display platform for antibody discovery.Carrying out RCA on issues, proposing and testing alternative solutions. Conjugating proteins and setting up Flow Cytometry sorting strategies. Also responsible for creating and maintaining ELN templates.
Senior Research Associate
Engineered stable mammalian cell lines and immune cells in order to develop biological tools which supported ongoing research mainly in the fields of cancer immunotherapy and neuroscience. I modified stable tumour cell lines to generate new cell lines (via transductions or transfections) and also immortalized cell lines and created knock out cell lines using CRISPR Cas..
