Thomas has extensive advisory experience, working with a variety of large, multinational consumer products, technology, and telecommunications companies to support their business-unit finance personnel.Thomas serves as a subject matter resource in the transactions space, assisting clients with US GAAP technical analysis, conversion of financial statements between IFRS and US GAAP, and understanding impact of ASC 805/IFRS 3 Business Combinations resulting from mergers and acquisitions.Thomas has led US GAAP to IFRS conversions for several Fortune 100 consumer products businesses in conjunction with the preparation of carve-out financial statements. He led the finance function stand-up for a global consumer products company spun out from a Fortune 500 food products business, including assisting with revisions to their Form 10, establishing new finance and treasury processes, drafting technical memorandum and footnote disclosures, and filing the company’s first 10-Q.He has also delivered multiple client and internal training sessions relating to technical topics, including the new revenue recognition and lease accounting standards under both IFRS and US GAAP.Thomas helped to create a new global methodology for assisting organizations with accounting policy transformation projects, including building templates and tools to assist professionals with implementing leading practices related to accounting policies, policy governance, and training activities.Thomas is currently responsible for the management and development of two Managers and two Senior Staff, including assisting with the goal-setting process, coordinating with engagement managers to gain an understanding of their performance during the year, and managing their annual review process.Thomas is recognized as a champion in PowerPoint and Excel, consistently requested to assist with the creation and delivery of go-to-market materials, client proposals, and presentations to senior leaders.

As a Manager in the Chief Accountant's Department, Thomas' role was two-fold:Thomas was primarily involved with the research, interpretation, and communication of significant accounting policies impacting the Bank. In this capacity, Thomas was responsible for understanding new accounting standards, and working with key stakeholders, as well as other members of the Chief Accountant's Department, to understand the implications of these standards on the Bank.In addition, Thomas supported various members of the Chief Accountant's Department who work with the Bank's segments in interpreting complex accounting issues and transactions. Thomas was primarily involved with the Insurance and Wealth segments.He was also responsible for drafting complex accounting policy documents in conjunction with the Bank's transition to IFRS including employee future benefits, severance accounting, restructuring, foreign exchange, derecognition of financial assets, and accounting for provisions.Thomas worked with a cross-section of financial institutions to respond to insurance accounting changes proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).Beyond Thomas' primary work function, he was involved in the following Employee Resource Groups at TD Bank:TD National LGBTA Working Group - works to address issues faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals within the Bank and the communities we serve.TD LGBTA Communications Committee - works to improve internal communications impacting the LGBT community.TD Finance Communications Committee - works to improve internal communications impacting the Finance community.TD Finance Social Committee - responsible for Finance-wide social events including the annual holiday gala.In addition to the above, Thomas volunteered to help plan the 2010 TD Finance Conference, and marched in the 2010 Toronto Pride parade on behalf of TD.

Thomas held lead positions on a variety of retail, distribution, and manufacturing clients ranging from SEC registrants, to subsidiaries of international public companies, and Crown Corporations.He was responsible for the research, discussion, and resolution of complex accounting issues including warranties, customer-owned tooling inventories, severance accounting, pension & other employee future benefits, stock based compensation, insolvency & business disruption, derivatives, and currency translation adjustments.Thomas initiated and led the redesign of SOX-404 strategy for use by global audit teams. This responsibility included assessing internal control systems, defining and mitigating audit risk through the use of control testing, and increasing overall reliance on internal audit in an effort to improve engagement economics. Thomas' extensive experience gained through client work led other Ernst & Young professionals (including executive personnel and members of Professional Practice) to request guidance related to certain complex accounting issues, audit strategy decisions, US GAAP, and SOX-404 strategy.Thomas actively worked with executive team members to identify extra billing opportunities and increase profitability on engagements by identifying and tracking client-caused delays and out-of-scope efforts. Further ensured maximum recovery by consistently outperforming budget expectations within short reporting deadlines.
