My research projects currently focus on three main topics : conception of ultrafast fiber lasers, nonlinear laser dynamics and ultrafast all-optical imaging systems dedicated to high-speed liquid jets and sprays.
Study of extreme nonlinear events (rogue waves) in optical fibers My work as a post-doc has been focused on the development of experimental techniques to capture ultrafast rare and non-repetitive events in nonlinear fiber optics. Using the dispersive Fourier transform technique, we have performed for the first time real-time measurements over an octave-spanning supercontinuum in the near infrared. Detailed study of shot-to-shot spectral instabilities has allowed us to evidence the presence of optical rogue waves. My work also concerned the study of specific nonlinear processes such as modulation instability (MI), in various waveguides. For instance, we have reported the observation of far-detuned MI in custom-designed optical microwires. This work has been achieved through several international collaborations: Univ. of Tampere (Finland), Univ. College Dublin (Ireland), Univ. McGill (Canada).
Région De Caen, France
Sujet de thèse : "Caractérisation des effets de lentille de population dans les lasers à solide"PhD thesis : "Characterization of population lensing effects in solid-state lasers"My PhD has been dedicated to the study of various transverse effects in solid-state lasers. On the one hand, nonlinear intra-cavity lensing stemming from electronic effects (so-called population lensing effects) have been investigated in collaboration with the Instituto de Fisica de São Carlos (Brazil). The realization of innovative measurement techniques has allowed to obtain new insights in these complex processes. On the other hand, my work has been focused on the extra- and intra-cavity shaping of laser beams. In collaboration with the CSIR National Laser Centre (Pretoria, South Africa), we have demonstrated various novel ways to generate laser beams with specific transverse intensity profiles.
