Often clean-ups require the removal of dirt and other vegetation which is replaced with fresh soil and seed or plants, cleaning contaminates from sewers, streams, and ponds, off concrete and asphalt. Have also done clean-ups for Hydraulic Fluid leaks and other contaminants.Have been a member of confined space entries in which I have been inside cleaning or outside supervising. I took over as the section sergeant for the Joint Network Node (JNN) team while refitting the equipment. I worked in the Mayor Cell handing customer work orders for the Combat Housing Units (CHU) and was responsible for maintaining the Armed Forces Network (AFN) on the Camp. I troubleshot and maintained the broadcast equipment for camp. I was essentially Comcast for the site. I assisted individuals and units with Satellite systems of their own to be able to receive the broadcast and mapped out, repaired and ordered new parts for the lines the unit prior to my arrival had left. I drew out plans for a more efficient network setup that would result in less signal loss and minimize the amount of equipment required to accomplish bringing AFN to every CHU.The last couple months of the deployment I was placed on the JNN team and worked on the Satellite Transportable Terminal (STT), AN/TSC-154 Secure, Mobile, Anti-Jam, Reliable, Tactical – Terminal (SMART-T), AN/TRC-190(V)3 High Capacity Line of Sight (HCLOS) system and in setting up Commercial Line of Site Antennas.

I was part of Network Operations (NETOPS) during training exercises and while deployed to Iraq. I was responsible for monitoring all stations we had on the network and contacting them when their links when down to get updates on the problem and corrective actions being taken. I reported the outages to higher and needed to be creative to contact some of the outlying units when their primary means of communications with us went down.During COMSEC changeover monitored and verified that everyone was back up on the network and troubleshot with the distant end if they didn't come back up as well as receiving updates on their progress.While getting settled into the new building at Camp Taji, I assisted in the setup of the Local Area Network (LAN) cables by running cables and putting the ends on them for SIPER and NIPER networks in the building for the command elements.When not operating as part of NETOPS I was the Unit Training NCO. I was responsible for sending daily reports as well as monthly reports, requesting school slots, and coordinating for training resources. When asked for what training needed to happen before deploying on our moved up deployment date my suggestion to have training on the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Guns was overruled by command and later had to scramble to get Soldier's trained on the machine guns while in theater.

I set up and operated for several training exercises to include one at the National Training Center (NTC) and a Mission Readiness Exercise (MRE) in preparation for deployment.I handled the unit publications and ensuring that the unit had all necessary publications they needed on hand.I deployed to Iraq in 2004 and set up and maintained equipment in all the major hot spots there. Had prepared and shipped the AN-TSC-93C+ that we had received as a replacement after two systems were destroyed in transport to theater back to be refurbished and upgraded to an AN-TSC-93D.I oversaw and performed COMSEC reloads and changeovers from the ANCD.Prior to heading out on missions and after returning to Camp Anaconda had assisted in the running of commercial communication lines with the cable dogs. While out on mission assisted in setting up private networks through commercial satellite internet connections. Also, ran our communication cables to provide communications to our customers.Organized training for the Soldier's on the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Guns that the unit had received and set up a Non-commissioned Officer Professional Development (NCOPD) class on the M2 .50 Caliber Machine Gun and assisted in running the range set up for Soldiers to fire and become familiar with the machine gun.

I was learning my new job as a Satellite Communications Operator-Maintainer. I received training on both the tactical and strategic systems.During various breaks in my training for various reasons I had operated in the company orderly room. I consolidated numerous Excel file databases that were impossible to maintain into an Access database. I learned how to create the database from a book and the program's help features.The database I created automated all the daily functions in the office reducing the time spent on routine tasks and improved accuracy of information. I created several forms that would be populated using mail merge features in Word with the queries I created in Access. I created complex macros to run specific actions with a click of a button.Was commented by a First Sergeant that his 74B Information Systems Operator-Analysts said it was impossible to do what I was doing with Access and Word when he had posed that question to them some time before I arrived at his unit and was showing him how I was able to automate and create routine forms from the database with just a few clicks of a mouse.

I was responsible for accounting for and maintaining over $2,500,000 of equipment. I received compliments from the Assistant Division Commanding Officer (ADCO), who was a one star general, that I was the most knowledgeable armorer he ever talked to in his entire career. On a surprise inspection from Division for my maintenance on the equipment and the arms room I was complimented for having the best arms room in the division. I started with the worst one in the battalion and twice received an award for the best arms room in the battalion a few months after I took it over. I helped bring up the level of all the arms room in the battalion to a new higher standard. I eliminated broken equipment and items that were obsolete and removed them from our property book for the unit.I handled all types of supply transactions and was responsible for signing for, acquiring, ordering, requesting turning in, warranty repairs, routine repairs, etc. I was in charge of a junior supply sergeant for much of the time I was acting as unit armorer.I was involved in coming up with a new design for securing the M16 Rifle, 5.56mm and M4 Carbine, 5.56mm that would accommodate storing them with the M68 Reflex Sight, AN/PAQ-4 Infrared Aiming Light or AN/PEQ-2 Illuminator Light, Backup Iron Sight (BIS), AN/PAS-13 Medium Weapon Thermal Sight or any other number of attachments. My suggestion for a cage with doors is what the army now has.

I trained, prepared and qualified an infantry squad to be ready to deploy to SFOR 6 in Bosnia. I led them on several presence patrols, inventories of munitions and inspections, gate guard and once a month had a week of rotating guard duty protecting a retrains site. I was signed for all the ammunition at this site and responsible for resupplying troops as they run out of ammunition in the event of an attack. I was responsible for over $200,000 worth of equipment as well as the welfare of 8 Soldiers.I oversaw that the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS) radio had the proper fill from the ANCD.

I held a variety of positions as an Infantry Soldier. I was one of four selected to fill in as a mortar-man for our training exercise at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). I spent a month being trained up on the M224 Lightweight Company Mortar, 60MM. When we were standing up a section in each platoon to have the M47 Dragon Medium Antitank/Assault Weapon System I was one of two sent from our Platoon for a four man group. My partner and I excelled in all areas showing up the other four man groups except in the shuttle run and we were 8 years older than them as well.I was a grenadier for a period of time using the M203 Grenade Launcher, 40MM, as well as a M249 Machine Gun, 5.56MM, commonly called the Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), gunner and an assistant gunner for the M240B Machine Gun, 7.62MM. I stood out from my peers with my knowledge of my job.During the Expert Infantry Badge training and testing had performed numerous tasks to include filling a SINCGARS radio with an ANCD, Operate a M2, MK 19 40-mm Grenade Machine Gun, MOD 3, Perform First Aid, Move under Fire, Call for Fire, Throw a Grenade, Estimate Range, various Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) gear tasks, and many other tasks.

I maintained half of the store myself and was the go to person for training new assistant managers. I also had the responsibility of printing signage and figured out how to resolve a design flaw in the program by finding a work around.In the time between working at Signature Flight Support and reporting for active duty, the manager heard I was out of work and tracked me down to come work for him until I left in order to get him back up to date on his price administration. I had accomplished getting him 100% caught up by the time I left for active duty.
