I spent a lot of my free time as a child playing with snap circuits which turned into Lego Mindstorms which inevitably fueled a fascination with electronics that could only be satisfied by taking up electrical engineering in college. This passion has only been amplified at school, where I have joined the U's Solar Vehicle Project (SVP) to help feed my obsession, and IEEE to help facilitate that obsession for others. Some general work that I've been involved with on SVP includes motor manufacturing, battery manufacturing, and array installation/soldering. I'm learning how to use design software like Altium365 and MotorCAD in hopes of helping design systems on the next car. Because I am going to Australia for the 2023 fall semester, I have opted to do a directed study course instead of taking a full courseload. The directed study course will focus on two projects aimed at both expanding and making accessible the information known about the permanent magnet motors used on the University of Minnesota’s solar car. The first project will be a dynamometer tutorial focused on giving solar car members the tools and understanding necessary to successfully run and use the equipment to gather data. The second project will be centered around model to hardware correlation. CAD models of the motors will be simulated, and that data will be compared against real performance (both on the dyno and on the road). The final report will give the next team of engineers a better comprehension of motors and its testing equipment. It will delve into the system's shortcomings, and how those shortcomings can possibly be avoided in future designs, all in all striving for more reliable motors.I'm interested in circuit design, power transmission and distribution, electric motor technology, communication technology, and electric vehicles.
