Expanding my design roll to lead engineering tasks

The SKA is a national organisation that organises competitive and coaching events for university students across the UK. It is run by a committee of 6 unpaid members who work for the organisation in parallel with their studies. The roll had unique challenges which I learned a lot from * Developed good communication, working with a team spread across the UK.* The events achieved record attendance between 2013-2014, involving 17 universities.* The organisation became financially self-sufficient topping £9,000 turnover.* The risks of a highly dangerous sport were managed to the satisfaction of the NGB.* Planned and executed “Zero 2 Hero”, a coaching weekend with full board and evening function for 160 attendees. Event generated £5,800 turnover with a 19% profit margin reinvested in other events.* Organised logistics for two of the biggest freestyle kitesurfing competitions in the UK this year for 140 attendees, giving away £2,500 in prizes.* Promoted the organisation and its sponsors through student newspapers, and social media generating over 45 thousand branded online photo views of the national championships.

During my year as an undergraduate engineer I undertook a range of challenging projects which I gained a great deal of experience from.* Successfully completed a safety critical project within a tight time frame. I Designed the control system, to level the work platform, which was tested by TÜV Rheinland (an international external test house) and successfully passed the relevant EU safety standards.* Delivered a solo project from conception to prototype: understanding the needs of internal clients, drawing up specifications, developing concepts and delivering a prototype telemetry system which was then successfully deployed into the field overseas.* Created a new universal CAN Bus template for future product lines. Reduced the number of CAN bus messages by 10% whilst increasing the amount of information sent.* Identified and proved that a safety critical coded maths statement was incorrect. This has now been amended on future revisions ensuring that the machines comply with the exact safety cut-off point they were specified to.* Played a key role in an international supplier meeting in Germany. Worked with a senior supplier engineer to assess the impacts to the company, exploring several routes to mitigate disadvantages of the changes.
