Co-founded and organized BioSpherex starting in 1998 to develop and commercialize environmental microbiology technology, products, and services based on the emerging sciences of high throughput DNA sequencing. BioSpherex is an early pioneer in the emerging field of metagenomics specializing in functional and structural molecular analysis of microbial communities that we call now call “Metabiomics™”. Early research successes lead to development of advanced capillary electrophoresis and LH-PCR and Multitag Pyrosequencing ™ analytical methods (Patents Pending) for DNA assays of complex microbiota communities. Developed collaborative R&D programs with the the GMU Microbiome Analysis Center (MBAC), GMUComputational Sciences and Bioinformatics Center, and the Rush University Medical Center in 2003 to pursuehealth and medical research applications of Metabiomics™. Current pipeline of IVD and related therapeutic research is focused on dysbiosis of the human microbiome related to IDB, IBS, Obesity, HIV, Colon Cancer, and other human microbiome involved immunological, inflammatory, and polymicrobial diseases.

Co-founded, developed, and managed new instrumentation company that pioneered the research and development of portable and automated on-line mass spectrometers for detection and analysis of explosives, chemical, narcotics, and biological agents for homeland security and defense applications. Provided leadership and management through several transitions from formation, development, and growth of company and serving in various leadership roles in organizing R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and sales functions while serving as Chief Operating Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors.• Co-invented Viking miniaturized, field portable GC/MS system and products; awarded U.S. and international patents. • Led industrial design, development, operations research, systems analysis, and systems integration team through four generations of portable and on-line GC/MS products.• Produced over $50 million in sales revenues from start-up through sale of company.• Won 70% global portable GC/MS market share within five years of market introduction.

U.S. DOE - Energy Research Advisory BoardOrganized and directed the Energy Research Advisory Board providing advice to Secretary of Energy and Director of Energy Research. Organized research study panels and collaborated with distinguished leaders in the scientific and technical community to evaluate and formulate R&D policy. Developed ERAB into a preeminent and influential energy policy forum and maintained effectiveness in complex and politically dynamic environment.

Developed and managed several systems analysis, technology assessments, technology transfer, commercialization, operations research, policy/economic analysis, and multidisciplinary projects and assignments including national commercialization planning of photovoltaic and solar thermal technology for US Department of Energy. Managed multimillion-dollar project budget and supervised multidisciplinary professional staff and subcontractors.
