My consulting business supports business and industry related to the refrigerants industry, as it grows and changes in response to global environmental regulations. Areas of experience include legal - expert witness work, regulatory matters, and overviews of the changing industry dynamics. I am a problem solver working across an array of technologies to support air conditioning, refrigeration, and related technologies. My goals include developing and optimizing processes to reduce the energy use and drive the overall reduction of the environmental footprint of such technologies. In my previous position as Technology Development Leader for new generation OPTEON(tm) air conditioning products with the DuPont and Chemours corporations I interfaced with companies and institutions around the world who are involved with cooling technology. I have experience and expertise in fluorinated materials, including refrigerant gas formulation and properties, and refrigeration compressor lubrication technology. I have been an active member of international Safety Standards organizations including ISO TC 86 for ISO Standard 817 and ASHRAE Standard 34. My expertise also includes the chemistry and interactions of materials used in AC and refrigerant system construction. as well as safety, regulatory, and policy matters pertaining to this technology as applied in many regions around the world.

I led the development and evaluation of OPTEON refrigerant gases and related materials for the stationary air conditioning and refrigeration industries, later focusing primarily on AC. I worked with AC manufacturers around the world to understand their needs, then worked within regulatory and environmental guidelines to develop and characterize refrigerant products for safe and profitable application by our development partners and customers. I developed and patented several refrigerant compositions.

I developed new fluoropolymer coatings for advanced cookware applications, and coatings for industrial applications. Patents were earned for new and unique coating formulations. during this time. During this time I identified the root cause of a major coating process problem, and instituted a low cost solution at the Parlin, New Jersey flouropolymer coatings manufacturing plant. The results included major cost savings and improved customer satisfaction in the product. I assisted in identification of application problems at customer facilities as well.

I joined this business to help with the conversion of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning industries away from use of ozone depleting refrigerants (CFCs) to a new generation of more environmentally acceptable refrigerant working fluids (HCFC and HFCs). We identified new classes of refrigeration lubricants that enabled the use of the new HFC chemicals. I solved problems with polymers and elastomers that were being used in conjunction with these refrigerants in various types of machinery. I identified lubricants and polymers that were suitable for use with the new refrigerants.

I solved technical problems to support the TEFLON Monomers and Polymers manufacturing businesses, including characterization and elimination of hazardous materials in process streams, and development of improved co-polymer processing technologies and improved process control technology. In Orange, Texas, from March 1983 through December 1992 I worked in support of the Adipic Acid and Hexamethylene Diamine businesses. I developed new low pressure hydrogenation technology and various process improvements in support of the Nylon Intermediates business.
