About Thomas J. Leck

My consulting business serves the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and related industries in areas including refrigerant technology and chemistry, government regulatory matters, global refrigerant market trends, and industry Standards, such as ASHRAE Standard 34. My experience also includes general business consulting in the HVACR sector, expert witness work, and patent related matters, especially as pertaining to refrigeration materials. In addition, I have recently developed a training short course on behalf of ASHRAE, on the current state of developing refrigerant gas technology, including safety standards and regulatory information. This presentation is available through ASHRAE.I am gratified to have been granted the Distinguished Service Award by ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air conditioning Engineers during their Annual Meeting in June, 2017 at Long Beach, CA.I am using the experience and skills I acquired and honed during the past 40 years in industrial problem solving. My most recent industrial role was to lead the development of new OPTEON(tm) refrigerant products for the global air conditioning industry. Here I depended on communication skills and broad technical experience to work with industrial customers to understand the product needs, the changing regulatory environment, and to work within that broad industry to develop and evaluate new product candidates. I worked with industry regulatory and safety standards organizations like ISO, ASHRAE, AHRI and related groups. I performed market assessments and communicated with industry leaders around the world. I developed and presented information about how products developed within my group fit with the regulatory and environmental sustainability needs of the global AC industry. Analysis, communication and problem solving are the most important skills I learned from this work.

Listed skills include Refrigeration Technology, Intellectual Property Development And Analysis, Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, and 26 others.

Thomas Leck

Wilmington, Delaware,

I joined this business to help with the conversion of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning industries away from use of ozone depleting refrigerants (CFCs) to a new generation of more environmentally acceptable refrigerant working fluids (HCFC and HFCs). We identified new classes of refrigeration lubricants that enabled the use of the new HFC chemicals. I solved problems with polymers and elastomers that were being used in conjunction with these refrigerants in various types of machinery. I identified lubricants and polymers that were suitable for use with the new refrigerants.
