About Thomas Lampo

I'm a chemical engineer turned biophysicist turned data scientist. I'm generally interested in the physical modeling of dynamic systems, whether it be the diffusion of proteins inside living cells or the demand-supply balance of marketplaces. Nowadays I'm interested in how Generative AI can be used to build new products that enable experts and coaches to expand their marketplace to help more people.

  • Stanford University
    Phd Student And Research Assistant
    Stanford University Sep 2011 - Sep 2016
    Stanford, Ca, Us
I studied theoretical biophysics in the lab of Professor Andrew Spakowitz. I have published on several research projects spanning several different areas. In my early PhD work, I performed Monte Carlo simulations for a coarse-grained model of clathrin protein assemblies on a cell membrane (clathrin proteins form cages around extracellular cargo, enabling the process of endocytosis where cells can take take in molecules from their outside environment). The bulk of my PhD work has focused on using models from polymer physics to describe the motion of chromosomal DNA. Specifically, I have done projects that help interpret the motion of DNA during segregation in bacteria and predict the dynamic correlations between connected DNA regions in both bacteria and eukaryotes. I have collaborated with the groups of several other professors on these projects, including Paul Wiggins, W.E. Moerner, Jan Liphardt, and Aaron Straight.
