Spent two months as a Design Tutor at Hunan University of Technology in Hunan, Zhuzhou, China.Developed and delivered a studio based graphic design course for Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology’s Visual Communication Design programme at Hunan University of Technology in China. This encompassed transforming learning outcomes to specific briefs and lesson plans, and delivering engaging lectures and classes for Chinese design students.

Massey University's School of Design, Nga Pae Māhutonga, is a centre for scholarship, research, and practice across a diverse and integrated range of professional design disciplines. My role as Senior Tutor saw me contribute to the university’s teaching and learning practice by assisting in the delivery of teaching and marking of a variety of undergraduate design papers—namely in the field of typography.The role required me to undertake the teaching of tutorials, lectures, studio teaching, and provide support with marking and student interaction. I have helped further develop the papers I have taught and their teaching/learning materials, as well as support students and their projects. Often classes were co-taught, requiring excellent collegial skills, and I was frequently involved in contributing to paper feedback and evaluation processes.

Toi Āria’s mission is to improve lives by reforming the design and delivery of public services. Harnessing the research power of Massey University, Toi Āria brings together leading design researchers, practitioners and policy makers, to deliver design-led, evidence-based, service innovations. My role within Toi Āria was Lead Designer for the ‘Our Data, Our Way’ online tool, and to provide assistance and support for this specific project overall. More specifically, I was responsible for executing visual design, developing the user experience, refinement, coordination of web development, production of marketing collateral, launch, and the assistance of dissemination.The project was developed and implemented by Toi Āria: Design for Public Good, Massey University and Springload Ltd to enable a broad cross-section of New Zealanders to easily express their personal positions on a range of hypothetical data scenarios. This was in response to a brief set by the Data Futures Partnership (DFP), who were tasked by the New Zealand Government to draft guidelines which public and private organisations can use to develop a ‘social licence’ for data use.

The Design+Democracy Project is a research unit at Massey University’s College of Creative Arts, and explores the role that design can play in advancing 21st century citizenship. The Project believes in collaboration and works in partnership with industry, government, and the social sector. My role within the Design+Democracy Project was to provide research assistance and support for the team. More specifically, I was responsible for executing visual design, reviewing literature, implementation, refinement, coordination of web development, launch and dissemination of VoteLocal: an online Voter Advice Application (VAA) to help young New Zealanders engage in 2016’s local elections. Through this role I developed considerable expertise in VAA design, construction and organisation of assorted elements. In addition to this specific initiative, my role also required me to contribute to and develop the Design+Democracy Project brand, social media and marketing, respond to media enquiries and participate in media interviews, and assist in partnership and funding applications.

During my time with Open Lab I was responsible for leadership of other creatives in addition to contributing to and responding to client briefs as a designer myself. This role included coordinating the workflow and output of our team to meet requirements and deadlines, while also formatively critiquing work and maximising the scope for other designers to develop individual self-critique. In my role we tackled a number of project types, ranging from visual identities and website design to exhibition graphics and publications. This leadership position also required me to undertake persuasive presentation of our resulting work to clients. Open Lab itself is an unique and dynamic studio environment that morphs according to the mix of client briefs that are being actively worked on. This required me to identify requisite skills and actioning team change in cooperation with managers and directors, while challenging our designers to extend themselves and grow confidence.Clients included DesignCo, Massey University, Grow Waitaha, Quinovic and LAWA (LGNZ, Cawthron Institute, Ministry for the Environment).

Minigram is a Berlin-based design agency that strives for individual solutions worked on in dialogue with clients, through exceptionally high quality requirements combined with an effort to create something unique and unmistakable. In my role as a designer, I undertook multiple individual design duties and briefs as instructed by Senior Designers and Directors to agreed project deadlines, collaborated with colleagues in the design process and working independently when required. We tackled a number of project types, ranging from visual identities, wayshowing systems, environmental graphics, brand architecture, and digital interfaces and concepts. Clients included GORE Fabrics, Bugatti, Novartis International AG, Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development & Environment, and Francotyp-Postalia.
