I was one of the Middle Temple Representatives for Cardiff University. Our work scope consists of being in charge of organising and coordinating qualifying sessions (which are the 12 mandatory sessions to attend in order to qualify as a barrister) for the BPTC providers around South Wales, United Kingdom.

I was attached to the Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution department.As part of my work, I was tasked to assist a client who was in midst of registering its trademark in Malaysia in part of its business expansion in Asia, and I was instructed to deal with the IP issues raised by MyIPO. All my work priorities were client driven and a solution was provided to the said client. This was one of the many good exercises which allowed me to be familiarised with the firm’s services and the legal landscape in Malaysia.

Being curious what lies outside the realm of legal practice, I applied for an internship with EY’s Financial Services Office Advisory division.Despite being an intern, I was given the opportunity to work side by with my colleagues as an associate. This experience had equipped me with the caliber and ability to react to situations, rather to stress. • For example, throughout the span of 2 months, I was in charge of the daily data extraction and compilation, consolidation of a deployment roll out plan for a bank's new line of financial services. I managed to maintain a consistent standard of work despite working under pressure and tight timeframe.Furthermore, I was tasked to actively take part in weekly meetings with clients. It involves communicating and negotiating with clients on a frequent basis that had enabled me to interact with them with professional demeanour and courtesy. This is a very important skill set that I had learned and such skill is sought after in the legal practice.

I was responsible for overseeing and leading the committee to organise educational activities, such as hosting guest speaker lectures, legal table discussion sessions and attending National ALSA forums. During my tenure, I was actively engaged with student-led activities and was an active member of the ALSA National Board.

I was attached to the Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions department.As a first-year law student back then, I was tasked to assist associates on legal researches, shadowing my mentor to attend case hearings, and numerous miscellaneous task in part of the firm’s daily operations.For example, my first brush with Corporate practice was when I was facilitating a due diligence exercise and preparing a summary of due diligence findings for the client.
