As an exercise for thinking outside the box, a mentor of mine once drew a line on a chalkboard. He turned to the group while pointing at the line and asked, "How do you shorten this line without changing it?"We came up with a number of different possibilities. Our first hypothesis was to slice the line in quarters and stack the parts. Another possibility was to bend the line so the measurement from right to left was shorter. Although valiant in our efforts, we came up with no answer that did not in some way change the original line."It's easy," claimed our mentor. "It's all in the eye of the beholder. The easiest way to shorten this line is to draw another line much longer. You must lengthen your line."I believe there are many opportunities in life. Most of the time opportunity presents itself as hard work. This is extremely important as it gives the ability to continually educate oneself and/or strive for new goals.
