As part of this 6 month placement I am one of three residential tasked with carrying out on aspects of countryside and reserve management on the RSPB sites around the Exe Esutary in Devon. The sites owned by the RSPB and that our team manages are as follows; Chapel Wood, Labrador Bay, Powerham, Mutton Marsh, Gossemore and Bowling Green Nature Reserves. Most of these sites are very important and are managed primarily for the over wintering birds that they support, as these sites are an important stop over on many birds migration flights, such as the Lapwing, Curlew and Avoccet, to name just a few. As an environmental technician, I am responsible for collecting environmental data from a number of different sites, these range in purpose but are usually active or old landfills and quarry's.
