Growing up I have always had a strong interest in science and the human body, and I have always wanted to work in a job focused on helping others. Hence, I thought a career in the health industry fit me quite well, and I only recently had my aspiration on becoming a doctor at the end of high school. I would love the opportunity to work as a future healthcare professional, as I would be able to improve the life of those in need in a truly significant way. Through several life experiences and opportunities, I have gained several skills that will be important as a future healthcare professional:Communication - I strongly value the skill of communication, and I always strive to improve in this area. Currently, I am working as a surf instructor for Get Wet Surf School, and communication is a major aspect of this job. I have gained experience in communication by having conversations to more and more surf school customers, and this is a skill that I can take into the healthcare industry. Good communication is of upmost importance when comforting a patient, informing them of necessary information and many other situations. Team work - Growing up, I played a lot of team sports. I was a member of Surfers Paradise AFL Football Club from 2009-2017, and played for multiple school APS sports teams for AFL, soccer, and basketball. These sports were great for developing team work skills, as it is not the team with the best players who win, but it is the best team as a whole. Communicating well and participating cohesively in tasks as a team is incredibly important, and this skill will leave a positive influence in the future within group projects, occupational campaigns, and motivation within the workplace. I will be able to put this skill towards workplace leadership in a healthcare setting. Rigour - Having always strived for the highest achievements and grades, I have learnt the value of hard work and rigour. As a student, I had to put the work in during school, and if I got a sub-par grade I would let it go and just work harder to improve on the next piece of assessment. I try to take this skill into all aspects of my life, whether it be surfing, practicing my piano or studying for my university degree. I truly believe hard work is the formula for success, and this skill of persistence keeps me motivated to keep trying to achieve my goals.
