I study the sources, sinks and cycling of trace elements in the ocean.I'm currently examining trace element biogeochemical cycling in the Australian sector of the Southern Ocean as part of the Australian Antarctic Program Partnership within the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania.Previously, I completed a postdoc at the University of Washington, measuring the impact of episodic glacial dust trace element inputs from glacial valleys into the Gulf of Alaska. I completed a PhD at IMAS, focused on the impact of volcanism on trace metal biogeochemistry in the Southern Ocean. After completing my Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Science) (Honors) I worked as an consultant environmental scientist for 1.5 years. This role gave me valuable project management and time management skills as well as technical skills in assessment of groundwater, soil and surface water contamination. After working as an environmental scientist and prior to commencing my PhD candidature, I worked in a variety of jobs in Australia, Canada and Alaska. This period provided me with an array of hands-on skills and gave me experience living and working effectively under extreme climatic conditions and in remote locations.
