Dr. Maddox is a senior health system executive overseeing digital health and innovation programs, a practicing cardiologist, a health services researcher, and a national leader in cardiology professional societies.Dr. Maddox is the Vice President, Digital Products and Innovation at BJC HealthCare and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. In this role, he provides strategic oversight and direction of both the BJC/WUSM Healthcare Innovation Lab and the BJC Digital Products team.The Healthcare Innovation Lab catalyzes care delivery innovation through research and development at BJC HealthCare and its academic partner, Washington University School of Medicine. The digital team builds and deploys digital products - such as online portals, apps, and wearables – that can help our patients and care teams receive and deliver optimal healthcare experiences and outcomes. Current products enable clinician search, online scheduling, primary care visit preparation, nurse scheduling, and virtual nursing.In his faculty role, Dr. Maddox is a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Washington University School of Medicine. He is a practicing non-invasive cardiologist, a trained epidemiologist, and an accomplished health services researcher. Dr. Maddox is well known for his contributions to digital transformation, healthcare delivery innovation, learning healthcare systems, and health services research in cardiac quality and safety. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine’s Digital Health Action Collaborative and the Healthcare Innovators Professional Society. He has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications and received multiple grants exploring optimal care delivery. He has also translated his quality-of-care research to clinical practice by designing and directing a national cardiology quality and safety program (CART) at the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). He is a leader in cardiology professional societies and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Cardiology. He is an elected fellow of the American College of Cardiology, an elected fellow of the American Heart Association, and an elected member of the American Clinical and Climatological Association.

This also may include advice on the regulation of DHTs, and/or their use, including use of DHTs in clinical trials or postmarket studies subject to FDA regulation. Topics relating to DHTs, such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, augmented reality, virtual reality, digital therapeutics, wearables, remote patient monitoring, and software, may be considered by the Committee. The Committee advises the Commissioner on issues related to DHTs, including, for example, real-world data, real-world evidence, patient-generated health data, interoperability, personalized medicine/genetics, decentralized clinical trials, use of DHTs in clinical trials for medical products, cybersecurity, DHT user experience, and Agency policies and regulations regarding these technologies. The Committee provides relevant expertise and perspective to improve Agency understanding of the benefits, risks, and clinical outcomes associated with use of DHTs. The Committee performs its duties by providing advice and recommendations on new approaches to develop and evaluate DHTs and to promote innovation of DHTs, as well as identifying risks, barriers, or unintended consequences that could result from proposed or established Agency policy or regulation for topics related to DHTs. -
