Writer of nautical fiction, both historical and modern. My debut novel, Against All Enemies, will be released 13 October 2023. I have another completed manuscript for a novel set during the American Revolution. My current work in progress is a novel about the service of three brothers during World War II. This last is loosely based on the experiences of my father and two of my uncles, one of whom survived the Bataan Death March and three years in a Japanese prison camp.A published author with a short story included in the middle grade anthology about fear, "Phobia!" A retired 32-year Navy surface warfare officer, US Naval Academy and US Naval War College graduate, I've served at sea in three guided missile destroyers and frigates, and a Destroyer Squadron staff. Ashore, I taught surface warfare at Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific. I've also served on the Fleet staffs for Third, Fourth, and Fifth Fleets, at US Central Command, and as Deputy Chief of Future Operations at Joint Task Force ODYSSEY GUARD. I also commanded a Navy reserve Force Protection unit.In my diverse career, I've also commanded a tall ship - brigantine "Megan D" - as well as founded and served as Executive Director of the Continental Navy Foundation, owner of "Megan D". We conducted at-sea experiential education for youths aged 13-17. As part of my civilian mariner sub-career, I taught Coast Guard licensing courses for all levels at Southern California Merchant Marine Training Service, and held licenses as Second Mate Unlimited Tonnage Upon Oceans; Master of Vessels up to 1600GT, Upon Oceans; Master of Sailing Vessels up to 100GT, Upon Oceans; and held a ticket as Able Seaman, Unlimited.
