Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team, in this role I am tasked with defining the group’s external digital communications strategy and delivering engaging content that drives awareness of the SSE brand. Managing a team of three, the role has several responsibilities including website governance and strategy, content production, social media management and channel performance analysis.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS­- In collaboration with an external agency, I successfully delivered a suite of company websites at a modest budget, in challenging circumstances as the world adapted to remote working during 2020. An improved design, user experience and SEO strategy has driven a 50% increase in website traffic since launch.- I am responsible for the running of a team that produces high-quality, in-house organic and paid-for digital content – next to a detailed content strategy – which continues to deliver an increase in online follower numbers and engagement.- I successfully run SSE’s multi-award-winning Annual Report project and have been responsible for identifying sustainable solutions in its production, whilst driving down cost.- I showcase SSE’s sustainability credentials through a digital campaign associated with the company’s industry leading approach. This multi-faceted campaign, which I design, plan, and execute, ranges from production of a Biodiversity report, leading on key inclusion and Diversity activity – such as Pride and International Women in Engineering Day – to supporting the Living Wage Foundation with their messaging.- Personally responsible for the production of a number of high-quality pieces of content, putting to use my proficiency in photography, videography, and graphic design.

In this role I was part of a proactive media team that worked to protect and enhance the company’s reputation. I was responsible for maintaining positive relationships with local, national, and sector-specific media, as well as having a digital focus, developing online content, and managing the company’s corporate website.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS­- Played an important role within a busy corporate press office, successfully managing reactive issues and media attention in a heavily scrutinised industry.- Contributed to a PRWeek-award-winning crisis management effort, covering a five-day power outage in the west of Scotland that attracted national media attention.- Worked closely with the Head of Media to develop a group social media strategy, establishing SSE on several previously unused social channels.- Introduced video content to the company’s communications strategy, producing several in-house videos of the Chairman, Chief Executive and Finance Director in support of major corporate announcements - unique within the FTSE100 at the time.- Assisted in the project management of the group’s Annual Report and Accounts.
