I have worked with research for nine years now at the Biological Physics group at Chalmers with Fredrik Höök as my main supervisor. My core research focus have been to characterize and analyze lipid vesicles, physiological vesicles and proteoliposomes. In this work I have gained extensive experience in lab-work, different analytical instrumentation (high proficiency in SPR and TIRF microscopy) as well as in analysis and programming (ImageJ and Matlab). I’ve also gained experience in different techniques used in biochemistry at Richard Neutze’s lab. The project I was involved with there was to overexpress the glycerol-transporter protein of the malaria parasite (PfAQP), applying several purification steps and finally reconstituting the proteins in synthetic vesicles. This was done in order to screen different inhibitor/drug candidates matching a hydrophobic pocket found in the channel pore, in an attempt to find a potential cure for malaria. In another project, I was also isolating and purifying chromaffin vesicles from bovine adrenal glands for analysis and characterization using SPR (chromaffin vesicles are primarily characterized using different amperometry techniques, which have some limitations that could be overcome in SPR).
