Principal Scientist
CurrentAs Principal Scientist within the R&D Colour Science team I lead shade design for the face category across all consumer and luxury brands, creating shade ranges that are competitive, diverse, and inclusive. With expertise in the visual assessment and technical measurement of colour, I provide technical leadership to R&D and Supply Chain during the development and industrialisation of shades. I collaborate closely with Third Party Manufacturers to develop shade palettes and ensure first-time-right production of shaded cosmetic products. I manage and coach one direct report, fostering their professional growth.Recent Achievements:• Championing Inclusivity: Identified gaps for darker shades within existing palettes, guiding product development to better meet consumer needs in colour and enhance palette inclusivity.• Ensuring Formula Consistency: Played a crucial role in the face platforming team, characterising the colour performance of new formulas to ensure the replacement provides the same colour result on skin for the consumer – a critical product attribute.• Capability Building in Quality Control: Introduced spectrophotometer capabilities at Coty’s manufacturing sites in Ashford, UK, and Monaco, resulting in more efficient scale-up, precise colour approvals, optimised in-process adjustments, and improved management of incoming pigment raw materials.• Refining Production: Optimised the manufacturing process for pressed powders, supporting pilot production to ensure accurate shade delivery with tighter specifications.• Standardising Practices: Developed and deployed global test methods for colour assessment, opacity, and pigment dispersion, along with a comprehensive global SOP for face shade development.• Driving Innovation: Led the rollout of online and in-store shade diagnostic tools, crucial during the pandemic. Leveraged generative AI and coding to automate logic based tasks, enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and saving time.
