I am an accomplished AI and machine learning research leader with over two decades of experience in advancing cutting-edge data analytics, artificial intelligence, and neuromorphic computing technologies. I currently lead a growing Data and AI Research Section at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where I have successfully started and scaled new research programs in machine learning, artificial intelligence, text analytics, and neuromorphic computing. As a Principal Investigator, I have been awarded over $37M+ in research funding from leading organizations including DOE, DARPA, DOD, DHS, Lockheed Martin, and Battelle. I have been honored with 5 prestigious R&D 100 Awards, co-inventing groundbreaking systems such as the Piranha text analysis system, DTHSTR text recommender system, MENNDL deep learning systems, SuperNeuro for large-scale neuromorphic simulation, and the MAQ framework for machine learning on Adiabatic Quantum Computers.I have also led three finalist teams for the ACM Gordon Bell Award, an internationally recognized achievement in high-performance computing. In addition to my research contributions, I co-founded VortexT Analytics LLC, a joint venture with Covenant Healthcare that commercialized Piranha and DTHSTR systems. The company was later acquired by Covenant Healthcare. With 150+ research papers published and 17 issued patents, I am passionate about driving innovation in AI and data science. I have also dedicated five years of pro-bono work to support law enforcement and non-profits in using technology to protect vulnerable children from predators.
