About Rebekah Thomas

For as long as I can remember, people have been my passion; the sharing of knowledge and stories, expansion of perception, and the opportunity to invest in others became the foundation of what I knew I wanted to do and study, and this led me into the world of social sciences, particularly organizational communication and psychology. I am fascinated by the ever-changing relationships between people and organizations, and I know that both can serve a purpose to the other, accelerating growth and fostering satisfaction and buy-in. This relationship takes intentional thought, effort, and at a lot of times, a critical lens to problem solve in order to benefit the organization and all stakeholders. My goal is to make somebody's everyday better, all while benefitting and serving the purpose of the organization in question. That being said, employee experience, communication, and organizational effectiveness is where I'd like to build a career, and it is my absolute passion in my professional life. When I am not thinking about how fascinating all of these practices are, I am probably editing a podcast, playing cribbage, being a Detroit Lions fan, singing showtunes around my apartment (much to my cat’s dismay), planning my next trip, or convincing myself I do not need more 1960s attire.

Listed skills include Leadership, Powerpoint, Social Media, Public Speaking, and 16 others.

Role listed

Chicago, Il, Us

Project Analyst

Chicago, Illinois, Us

My role at C+R encompassed many responsibilities including but not limited to pulling and analyzing data, checking data, making presentations client ready, and contributing to the holistic research process on both the quantitative and qualitative side. I also served on a communications committee in order to rework internal communications and increase assimilation and buy in across the organization. My role as Project Assistant really translates to being a supporting analyst, giving me the opportunity to work with all the teams in our organization instead of a single team, exposing me to more processes and research methods.

Mar 2022 - May 2024

Project Coordinator/Consultant

Adrian, Michigan, Us

Being a smaller private university, I wore many hats in my role- some that were directly related to Residence Life, but others that allowed me to to put my education to practical use in a more consulting/org development role.My push for cross-departmental communication and relationship building led me to be peer nominated and voted in as a member of the Staff Advisory Council. Here, I assisted in addressing staff concerns and developing initiatives if needed. Accomplishments while I was on this committee include changing the frequency of HSA distributions and improving the tuition remission program for staff members. I also served on the Spirit of Change Committee. I, along with other members, analyzed feedback from all faculty and staff at the university, identified shortcomings, and developed initiatives to counteract those. These initiatives contributed directly to the University's strategic plan.My Residence Life responsibilities included being on-call for crisis situations, administrative and personnel tasks, property and staff management, student conduct, and conflict resolution, among others. Additionally, I evaluted and implemented needed changes and procedures to the Student Code of Coduct.

Jan 2020 - Mar 2022

Adjunct Faculty

Adrian, Michigan, Us

Teaching in a university was a very new experience for me and had a lot of growing edges. As a person who is pretty partial to public speaking, I tried to instill that excitement into my students, but realistically, I knew there were more effective tactics. Not only did I provide information about different speech styles and the expectations of them, but I applied stress-relieving and calming techniques, hopefully providing skills they can take with them beyond the classroom. I assessed and critiqued communication both verbally and non-verbally- this feedback, along with the aforementioned resources, resulted in an evident improvement in public speaking abilities throughout the semester.

Oct 2021 - Dec 2021

Area Director

Murray, Ky, Us

Murray State was one of the most developing experiences for me as a professional. Not only was I supervising 12 Resident Assistants, an Assistant Residence Director, a Desk Supervisor, and 15 desk workers, but I was also in charge of the safety and overall wellbeing of 550+ students. I was extremely intentional when it came to building an accepting, inclusive community for my Residence Hall. I was constantly investing into my students, connecting them with resources, and overseeing the countless programs held for their development. I served on-call 24/7 for my building, responded to many sensitive incidents, and resolved many conflicts. I handled all discipline for the residents of my building in a timely and fair manner, making the most of teachable moments and development. I had to perfect time-management in this role- I was working full-time as a full-time graduate student, so running the largest building on Murray State's campus took a meticulous and well organized schedule. I utilized multiple scheduling tools, and successfully fulfilled both roles.

Jul 2018 - Jan 2020

Leadership Team Member (Lt)

Circle A Ranch

As a leadership development camp, not only was I given the knowledge to live out multiple forms of leadership, but to facilitate leadership workshops and activities for my 150+ campers over the course of 3 summers. I was part of a bigger goal that modified environment and behavior in order to promote inclusion and encourage reaching one's potential. I led many activities including team building, service projects, multiple sport classes, and drama. These camps took place in the summers in Michigan, North Carolina, and Colorado.

Gap Year

Career Break

In order to fulfil my dreams of travelling internationally, the most practical way to achieve my desired experiences was to get a working holiday visa and move to the gorgeous country of Ireland. Not only did I explore as much of the country as possible, but I was immersed in an entirely different culture in a very diverse city in Europe. I worked at a coffee shop during my time in Galway, with 9 lovely individuals from 7 different countries, making it one of the most diverse places I have ever had the pleasure to work at. My time in Ireland was spent traveling throughout Europe and trying to get the most out of my experience, but I learned a lot about processes needed for an expat to live and work in a different country. It was an incredibly enriching experience and I still have wonderful relationships with the people I met in Ireland.
