This involves both strong interactions directly with customers, assisting to find appropriate solutions to complex issues, and then actively developing, documenting, diagramming and seeing these solutions come to life.

Responsible for migrating AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), overall architecture and PoC of various systems, container orchestration, DevOps for application deployments, security enhancements and auditing, and platform planning.

Maintain several PostgreSQL databases, working on upgrades, DB migrations, and backups. Assist with development and systems automation via Python, shell (Bash), and other languages. I manage several different projects at a time, performing based on priority, with proper scheduling and documentation. Review budget and purchases for IT Operations, maintaining costs, various project plans and management, and recommendations for infrastructure changes.

Provided engineering and planning tasks for 200+ Linux systems, HP-UX, VMware ESX & NetBackup. Helped to migrate our environment from physical HP-UX servers, to a virtualized solution incorporating Windows and Linux virtual machines running on VMware ESXi Dell systems attached to Dell AX4 SAN arrays (EMC based). Experienced in scripting with multiple languages including Shell (Bash/Korn), PowerShell, SQL, Python, HTML/CSS, PHP. Also work with Active Directory (and integration of AD with Linux via LDAP/Kerberos/Samba), Apache configuration, RedHat clustering, and other technologies. Developed and maintain an API written in Python with a PostgreSQL backend to manage various jobs communicating with vendors over the internet via SFTP/FTP (w/GPG encryption).

Initially as a consultant, and soon after as a employee Provided systems administration duties for hundreds of AIX, Linux, and HP-UX servers. Specialized in MC/ServiceGuard clustering, and logical volume management on several EMC and CLARiiON disk arrays. Worked with Veritas Netbackup, HACMP AIX clustering, and HP-UX LPARS. Used VMware ESX Server on Linux to created an environment for virtual servers running Windows Server (2000, 2003). Provided second level support for Unix systems, dealing with sudden outages, hardware replacements, and performance monitoring, correction, and analysis. Worked with internal customers to provide solutions and advice for a variety of questions relating to storage management, system performance, and general Unix inquiries.Migrated to the Automation Services department and now focus on event management and monitoring via BMC PATROL, and automate tasks via several different languages to assist the systems administration team. The development environment is primarily Linux with work done on HP-UX, and AIX. In addition, I am working on the development of a CMDB through HP Application Mapping.

UNIX Systems Administrator I - II: Perform daily UNIX administration tasks for 150 HP-UX systems in Virginia and throughout the country. Extensive experience in MC/Service Guard clustering, XP512 administration, LVM, OnlineJFS, GlancePlus, PerfView, Samba, administration in an Informix and Sybase environment. Created a web application to handle daily administrative tasks and reporting, consisting of a PHP & Perl front-end, interacting with Shell and a PostgreSQL database. I filled a primary role in a project to purchase and implement an XP512 disk array and serve an administrator for the storage system. I engage in long term projection of hardware acquisition, and have excellent skills in both long and short-term project management. I was promoted to a level II administrator and provided direction and education for junior level contractors.Aside from my administration tasks, I designed and coded a web application for Project Management that is used throughout CarMax IT Operations. The application was coded in PHP (w/PEAR implementation for automated creation of Excel reports), JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and SQL.Analyst – Solution Center: (2000) Served as second line application support for a custom client/server application written in PowerBuilder and accessing a Sybase database. Coded temporary scripts in SQL to serve assist running transactions until permanent solutions were released. Worked with developers to document SQL updates needed. I was promoted three times in 2 years at the MIS Solution Center.Specialist – Solution Center: (1999) Handled first line support for the CarMax help desk. Server monitoring, calls taken, first line for ticket opening and resolution.
