Thomas Robertson is licensed as a clinical social worker (LCSW) in the State of Hawai‘i and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in social welfare at the Thompson School of Social Work and Public Health at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Thomas is adjunct faculty at the School of Social Work at Brigham Young University–Hawaii. He has a passion for teaching social work to the school’s international students. He has taught a variety of theory and practice courses. He has also participated in the school’s Center for Learning and Teaching, and the Educational Research Fellowship. Thomas is also a lecturer at UH.As a doctoral student at UH Mānoa, Thomas has had the opportunity to perform as a graduate assistant to two major state-level programs. First, Hawai‘i CARES program, and now the Hawai‘i Caring Systems Initiative. Both programs aim to make improvements to macro-scale systems in the state, with the ultimate aim to positively impact the people of Hawai‘i. He formerly worked at Ko‘olauloa Health Center, a federally qualified health center that covers the medically underserved region between Ka’a’awa and Haleiwa, on O‘ahu. There he provided behavioral health services to those in need, with a focus on diverse populations with mild to severe mental disorders. In further clinical work, he has managed a successful private practice, worked with military families, provided case management for people with severe mental illness, and provided clinical supervision to those seeking to further their career through licensure.Current research interests include suicide prevention and postvention, social isolation and loneliness, behavioral health integration in rural and underserved communities, and evaluating mental health and substance abuse service delivery efficiency.
