In support of research on deforestation and enclosure of traditionally Indigenous lands in B.C.'s Vancouver Island, I transcribed and classified hundreds of archival documents from the 19th and 20th C pertaining to land rights on the Island. I also mapped deforestation on VI following the Private Managed Forest Lands Act of 2003.

(*See also - Education)My MA research focused on climate change adaptation and conflicts related to internationally funded water infrastructure projects in the Rupununi savanna bordering Brazil.I saw my MA program as an opportunity to collaborate with Guyanese development organizations and Indigenous advocacy groups. The two-year research project included 10 weeks of field work during which time I produced 3 community-based maps and interviewed 26 participants as well as 3 focus groups.Upon my return from the field, I analyzed the primary data collected along with 99 project documents and relevant academic literature to assess the social and ecological impacts of 4 water infrastructure projects. Along with my thesis, I co-authored a 3-page brief with findings and recommendations for project planning and community engagement. The report focused on establishing practices that use "vulnerability to climate change" as a means of engaging rural communities in the development process. This report was shared with the research participants and Guyanese advocacy groups.
