Simply put, public service is my passion. Many people desire to make their community a better place to live. This spirit of volunteerism, generosity and goodwill is what creates “community.” My chosen path is as a public servant, advocating for citizen-raised issues and seeking at every turn to create opportunities for interaction and involvement by citizens to better their communities. In 15 years as an elected official in Waukesha County, I have developed a thorough understanding of local government on many levels, from the perspectives of both a taxpaying citizen, and a public servant participating in the day-to-day management of a city or county. Residents should expect high standards and accountability from their elected representatives; I welcome and embrace this expectation, and constantly strive to learn about and advocate for constituents’ interests and concerns.Basic, strong principles guide my actions as an elected official. Controlling spending and taxation is a never-ending mission. I work to prevent government encroachment and unnecessary regulation in our daily lives, and in the businesses we work in. Defending individual rights, and fostering policies that encourage self-reliance and accountability, are my guideposts. My work as an elected official allows me insight and influence on decisions and programs involving public health, budgeting and taxes, responsible land development, military veterans, the elderly and disabled, the judicial system, and a large public workforce. I consider it an honor and a privilege, and never forget whom I really serve. After living in Waukesha County for more than five decades, I have innumerable good memories of parents, coaches, teachers, friends, and wonderful experiences. I, along with so many of my neighbors, feel a duty to make my community a better place. I’m fortunate that they grant me the opportunity to do so via my passion for public service.
