Wildlife Technician
CurrentThe Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Technicians inspect watercraft at key locations located around the state. Participating in outreach and education efforts to inform the general public about the impacts of aquatic invasive species on Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats. Major duties and responsibilities are to:Inspect watercraft entering Oregon at designated locations throughout the state for quagga and zebra mussels and other aquatic invasive species. Activities will include:Following established protocols for inspection and decontamination of affected watercraft.Submit weekly summaries of watercraft inspections to the Invasive Species, Wildlife Integrity Coordinator. Record inspection data onto paper forms. Enter inspection forms into an online database.Occasionally coordinate with Oregon State Police, Oregon State Marine Board, county law enforcement, and other department staff to isolate any watercraft contaminated with quagga or zebra mussels or other aquatic invasive species.Use watercraft inspections as an education and outreach opportunity to inform members of the public about aquatic invasive species and their ecological and economic impacts.Disseminate information about aquatic invasive species and proper ways to clean or decontaminate watercraft at various public venues.
