The chat bot is meant to allow patients to quickly access medical information concerning treatment options as well as to provide easy access to routine administrative functions for healthcare providers. My work covered all phases of the engineering design stage including knowledge elicitation, requirements analysis, design and implementation. The work was done for research purposes at the University of Calgary but a real prototype system is currently being created for a Calgary Urology clinic. The project leverages IBM Watson API's for speech processing and is developed using multi-agent system paradigms. Show less

My main responsibility was to help students to learn and improve their understanding in the subjects of math and physics. The focus was on teaching studying habits and self learning skills. Dispite having learned all the math and science in High School, it was amazing how much you forget when you don't use it. All of the students I tutored showed an increase in their grades as a result of my tutoring, including one student who was diagnosed with a learning disorder and was a particular… Show more My main responsibility was to help students to learn and improve their understanding in the subjects of math and physics. This was the 16 month internship I had the privilege of fulfilling while in my third year of my Electrical Engineering degree. SKF Magnetic Bearings is one of the few companies I know of that works with the futuristic tech of magnetic levitation and applies it to real world problems. Magnetic levitation allows for insanely fast speeds because of the reduced influence of friction (almost zero if in a vacuum). Levitation is controlled actively via electromagnets and by varying the current through… Show more This was the 16 month internship I had the privilege of fulfilling while in my third year of my Electrical Engineering degree. SKF Magnetic Bearings is one of the few companies I know of that works with the futuristic tech of magnetic levitation and applies it to real world problems. Magnetic levitation allows for insanely fast speeds because of the reduced influence of friction (almost zero if in a vacuum). Levitation is controlled actively via electromagnets and by varying the current through the coils, stable levitation is achieved. As an intern I was mostly charged with developing and maintaining the software program called MBScope, used to monitor and control the magnetic bearings themselves. I was able to fix hundreds of bugs and even develop a number of new features as they were passed on to me from the mechanical engineers and my supervisor. We worked a majority of the time as a small team of programmers, collaborating daily on our tasks and working towards the overall project goal.Eventually, I was given a task to independently develop a software plugin from the ground up that interfaced with a magnetic bearing controller. The plugin was designed to read streaming data from the controller at very high speeds (5MB/sec) parse it, and display it on a windows application. It was a large project that took some time to do and I am very proud of having accomplished it.I was able to get a lot of practice with some technical writing as well, as every time a stable software build was generated, we had to create release documentation outlining the main changes and differences from the previous version. I learned how to use source control during my internship and I got pretty skilled with the use of GIT. Some of the best people I know work for SKF and I really value the time I was able to spend there. Show less
