Currently I try to make the circle of my career round. Started my career in 1994, after my Law studies (Metajuridica) by working for NGO L'Arche in Brussels and Gouda as the field of people with disability interested me, because of an older brother with a disability. Continued in this domain the Netherlands at Dennendal/ Reinaerde where I created my own job and became a fundraiser. In 2000 I started my now almost 25 years journey as a(n) (social) entrepreneur First as a freelance (international) fundraiser and author/ columnist and (co-)wrote and (co-)published several columns, articles and books between 2000 and 2015. Writing will be picked up under my authors name Thomas Nicolaas https://www.linkedin.com/in/thomas-nicolas-06b092218/ from 2025 onwards together with a focus on 2 NGO's. Toe to Heart and Dutch Studies Association. Since 2004 I am living in India after my work as an international fundraiser (for projects with people with disabilities) had brought me to Burkina Faso, Brazil and India. In Bangalore I broke my toenail on MG Road and end up marrying the nurse who took care of me and moved in 2004 to India. That was the start of Toe to Heart, a NGO for Child Education. A neighborhood project for the education of disadvantaged one-parent children started in 2005 and will terminate in a few years. This has always been voluntary work. I started also my own business and from 2006-2013 I ran an offshore center for Dutch/ British company GlobalizeMe which still exists in Bangalore , but in which I have no involvement anymore. From 2014 I have been involved as a Dutch Teacher, Certified Culture trainer in the selection and training of nurses and hundreds of Indian IT-consultants heading to work in Flandres and the Netherlands. Corona and the years after where harsh and after long reflection I have decided in 2023 to focus again on NGO work and in 2024 we have been working on plans for the same, a restart with Toe to Heart with a rural project outside Bangalore and also involvement with projects in Burkina Faso, Brazil and the Netherlands. Next to that I felt also the need to set up a non-profit for Dutch studies abroad, Dutch Studies Association. Helping children with education, also disabled children, and organize Language and Culture training abroad in a better way, are objectives to 'die' for in this last phase of my career. Toe to Heart has had plenty of support in the Netherlands and India during the 20 years of our existence and the Union of the Dutch Language/ Taalunie is supporting me currently to set up the Dutch Studies Association.
