I have solid development, design, and architecture experience in the internet and data spaces with good agile understanding. Recent work has included JSON based API development and collaborating on 3rd party endpoints. I am currently pivoting my career to data, analytics, and applications or what some have called "data engineering". I have taken both Hadoop and Spark 13-week courses at DePaul University and focused on python-based data science modules to move towards a data-centric focus. My goal is to exploit my deep software background and combine it with data experience and apply it to data engineering and application challenges. Having touched aspects of genomic data, bioinformatics, and "personalized medicine", those areas are of particular interest. My current position involves Python/Flask/Django with SQL Server and Postgres. The foundation of my application experience is with the Ruby on Rails framework, including Ruby, JRuby, Sinatra, RailsAPI, RSpec, Passenger/Nginx, many Gems, and other tools associated with Rails.I have worked with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and Postgres as well as NoSQL repositories MongoDB, Redis, Couchbase, and Hadoop HDFS. Currently I am prototyping a Neo4j Graph database.I actively used Amazon S3 for several apps in the past and have deployed Rails apps to cloud platforms including AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Heroku, and EngineYard. I have also experimented with other AWS services, like “serverless”.I understand how an agile team functions. I can effectively communicate with non technicians and third party entities. I also have relevant experience working collaboratively with remote colleagues. With my senior-level background, I can also provide team and project leadership.I can easily adapt and adjust to new technologies and concepts. I consider collaboration and communication critical and have proven adept at both.
