About Thomas Zarb

My favourite maths teacher once said to me "Thomas, you are an absolute pleasure to teach, but I do wish you would just stop shouting the answer out!".Whilst I have come along way since Year 4 (and am more considered in my approach to offering solutions), some things never change - I always strive to get things done. I am a very proactive person, and like to drive things forward by thinking creatively to get problems solved, and *keep* them solved.I always maintain a positive mindset. I am very open, honest, friendly and approachable, yet have an incredible tenacity and direct approach that allows me to excel in bringing people together, keeping them together, and staying on track. I am reliable, diligent, efficient and pragmatic, and will always offer to help my colleagues when they are in need.Whilst I may not always know the right answer - as my maths teacher could testify to - I always strive to find the answer. I want to understand the methodology behind the answer, share my knowledge with the whole team, and bring people together and drive things forward.

Jul 2019 - Oct 2019

Order Administrator

Leicester, United Kingdom

Temporary role whilst waiting for an IT contract. In this role I quickly became a trusted member of the Customer Care team and managed the workload of time-critical tasks alongside my colleagues.► I Created a new process for filing orders, and filing system for historic orders - previous to my time at Rieke; historical orders were kept in old filing cabinets, taking up space and not correctly arranged by customer and date. Current orders were kept with the individual in charge of the account. I rearranged historical order into year - customer name - date format, and boxed for storage/retrieval. Current orders were transferred to an alphabetical and date filing system, so everyone could access files when other colleagues were not available.► I Created and managed a new process for processing sample requests and sample stock re-ordering, including SOPs. This new process involved a single point of contact within the company dealing with all samples rather than individuals dealing with their own customer requests. The exisiting method was flawed as no one took responsibility for reordering sample stock, the presentation of the sample room or which samples had been sent to which customer. The new method enlisted a single person dealing with all sample enquiries, presentation of the sample room and ordering new samples when stocks were low. ►Entering customer orders onto the SAP system. Entering orders onto the SAP system, passing to production/purchasing and then informing the customer of their lead time. Accuracy and attention to detail played a key part in being successful within this role.►Dealing with customer enquiries - Over the phone and on the telephone. I kept to the highest standards of customer service, approachability, integrity and also humour to gain customer trust and respect.

Communication of plans to multiple stakeholders and monitoring site performance. ►Change Management - Practical application of the change curve. As a great listener and someone who can inspire others to develop themselves through positive reinforcement, I take great pride in my interpersonal skills and ability to work with a very wide range of people. ►Design and Planning of Contingency Procedures - Production of flow charts and user guidance for multiple stakeholder levels within the business. ►Produce and Adapt Flow Diagrams for Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) - People centric flow diagrams, a reference guide used as training materials to guide users on the correct process for using the system. ►UAT Walkthrough - Stress testing to test system strength and find faults. Found a system bug that could have stopped sites nationally, and was having kept an exacting log of test data was able to replicate to seniors. I was praised for my efforts in finding the flaw and potentially saved the company upwards of £200,000 had the bug been exploited in the live system. ►Training - Co-ordinated team managers to walk through system process before site go-live. Project Implementor

Nationwide

The Polaris project is a company wide multi million pound change management project, transforming the way SIG operates within its branches. As a Project Coordinator I have developed Go-Live plans for branches with a turnover of well over £20 million a year, and manage the switch over process during this time. This involves planning for a multitude of areas, include training needs analysis, resource allocation and new ways of working for the branch to name a few. ►Developing and Managing a Go-Live plan - I created PowerPoints for branches with specific branch actions and timings; Word documents for trainers to include sensitive branch information, and a cluster progress tracker to monitor how other implementers were doing across other sites in my cluster. ►Strategic planning - Impact and risk identification were key to my role - I created a risk register including severity levels and potential outcomes to plan for events where there was deemed to be a risk. ►Stakeholder influencing and Engagement - Managing a diverse range of people and personalities, I have used my influencing skills to avoid conflict between branches when an unpopular decision has been made. I pride myself on being clear and approachable. ►Planning, Organisation and Deadline Management - This role was heavily self managed. I was responsible for keeping my own diary and achieving all necessary tasks within any given time period. I was often working on a multitude of projects simultaneously. ►Reflection and Continuous Improvement - I am passionate about forever improving and continuous learning. An example of this is when I re-visited a site and they suggested that drivers needed to be re-trained on the HHTs closer to Go-Live. I incorporated this into my future Go-Lives and there was a noticeable improvement in HHT usage rates and less errors were made.

House Development

Leicestershire

Since an early age, I made it my mission to buy and develop a house at an early age. My tenacity and determination (including working 2 jobs, 7 days a week) paid off - I managed to buy a fantastic property in need of total refurbishment and renovation. I managed all aspects of budgeting, arranging trades, getting quotes, procuring all materials in savvy ways to yield the best profit for myself without compromising on quality or finish. I did all of this whilst still working two jobs, working away and finding the time to see my family and friends. I was approached by a friend of a friend who was writing an article for The Sun, and wanted to feature me in an online article. I wanted to show that despite the often poor press younger generations get, there are still many who go out, work very hard and make shrewd decisions and sacrifices to achieve their goals.

Feb 2016 - Feb 2017

Team Leader

Leicester, United Kingdom

Having worked at Waitrose from my A-levels right up to the end of my degree, I have many years of experience working with and managing other people. During my time at Waitrose I progressed to a Team Leader role, thoroughly embracing my role and added a positive contribution to the day-to-day running of the store. Some of my achievements whilst at Waitrose were: ►Delegation – As one of the most experienced members of the counters team, I was responsible for delegating to colleagues where they needed to work. Alongside this, I managed break and lunch times, ensuring available resource to cover other departments when needed. ►Managing the Rota - Having years of experience within the Café, I streamlined the rota to make more efficient use of the available resource and improve customer service at peak times. I organised cover when colleagues were on holiday, and authorised when colleagues needed to swap shifts. ►Partner Voice Team – Effectively the store council, I was voted to represent the thoughts of other part-time partners. I represented these thoughts in meetings, and fed back to my constituents the outcomes of the meeting. ►Training – I have been responsible for training new members of staff, and offering support to members of staff who are new to each of the sections I have worked on. ►Stock Management – By analysing previous sales figures and looking for sales patterns, I was able to optimise the amount of bread I was responsible for baking, to minimise waste. ►Flexibility –Fully trained on all three counters (Meat and Fish, Deli, Patisserie); along with Cafe Front and Back of House and Checkouts. I have the flexibility to swap between roles when required and communicate between different members of staff to ensure smooth running of the store. ►Efficiency and Timekeeping – One key shift that I had required me to prepare Saturdays bread at 6am in the morning. I had to be reliable, on time and work efficiently to get everything ready for opening.
