Keeping myself technically capable! Engaged part time in stealth mode start-up with active hands-on architecture development. Over the past two months, I have had the opportunity to create a neurodiversity-focused platform for establishing habits using ML and AI. We have a small but growing team of six amazing individuals who continue to contribute features weekly. - Hands-on Technical Contributor: C#, .NET Core, SQL, REST API, Microservice, Docker, Splunk- Saved an at-risk project with the Department of Veterans Affairs using a combination of risk management, intake process refinement, and agile coaching. Initially hired as a technical lead, it became apparent that the current project structure was leading to poor performance and a lack of releasable software. - Asked to take the lead of engineering org of 27 personnel, quickly reorganized into three teams of 9 personnel each, and implemented a new agile process based on past experiences. - Some of the philosophies I employed included a “single story” approach for the entire sprint until it was complete; a shielding of engineering from business owners to allow knowledge workers to contribute effectively; and a more detailed intake process that required all defects and new requirements to be thoroughly vetted by a product owner.- Some of the technical changes I employed included:- A shift to PaaS in the VA Enterprise Azure Cloud to remove the need for server administrators and save costs- A dedicated DevOps pipeline to increase the ability for rapid delivery and add quality assurances (unit testing, automated testing via selenium).- A migration to .NET Core accompanying a wholistic application refactoring using SOLID principle and interface-based development- Through these simple changes, we more than increased our quality score and successfully released two production releases of a software package of vital importance to veterans nationally. - Because of our work, the product was able to begin dispensing a lifesaving medicine to Veterans with a particularly severe illness in real-time – which provides immediate relief to the symptoms of the illness.
