I had day-to-day responsibility for the company's Communications & Investor Relations programme. Appointed Director & Board Member of Flying Futures in November 2011 - a Community Interest Company (CIC) specialising in Sports & Arts diversionary programmes for Young People. I became non-Executive Chairman in July 2017. In my time at the business, Flying Futures CIC helped over 10,000 young people across Yorkshire to increase their skills and confidence whilst also significantly growing the business. We have increased turnover from just £3,000 in the year to July 2011 to £2m in 2018, now employing over 40 members of staff. Our success in making a difference to young people's lives was recognised by our success in delivering and winning a number of Government contracts - including becoming one of the key delivery partners of the Government's flagship National Citizenship Service programme in North Yorkshire - in addition to working with a wider set of stakeholders, including BT, the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, Asda and Network Rail.Key programmes included:- Delivering the Government's flagship National Citizenship Service programme in a number of regions, including North Yorkshire;- Working with schools to deliver alternative education programmes to young people at risk of dropping out of the education system;- Helping to deliver 'Expect Youth' in Doncaster, delivering high quality youth-centred provision across the borough; and- Developing a number of CSR programmes with an increasing number of private sector clients, including Asda and Network Rail.As Chairman of the Board, I introduced a number of organisational changes to improve the company's performance and governance, including the recruitment of a new Chief Executive, the implementation of a full organisational review and budget sign-off process for 2018 and the introduction of sub-committees to the main Board to improve operational oversight from non-Executive Directors.

Prior to the full re-listing of Harworth Group plc, I joined Harworth Estates as Partnerships Manager. Principal duties included:- All aspects of Communications, including PR, marketing and acting as company spokesman on key matters;- Strategic Partnerships, including securing external finance to fund development and the company's contribution to key public-private strategy matters such as HS2 and the Northern Powerhouse; and - Policy & Research matters, including all economic data modelling.

• Responsible for creating and implementing business-led Skills Strategy across the Borough in order to support economic growth. Through the co-ordination of a range of staff across Doncaster’s Work & Skills Partnership, key successes included the creation of new job programmes with employers such as NEXT, securing (with Sheffield City Region) £24m of Government money to support our small businesses to take on Apprenticeships and improved links between local employers and schools to improve the employability skills of our young people. • Responsible for the implementation and day-to-day running of the Business Doncaster Partnership – a unified business support function for the Borough. Launched in May 2012, this role involved bringing together the Council, the Chamber of Commerce, Doncaster College, a variety of Private Sector representatives and others to make it easier and for new and existing businesses to access the support they required - ranging from access to finance issues to improving exports.

• Executive Board member of the Safer Doncaster Partnership, with responsibility for performance and data systems; implementation of improved analytical techniques contributed to year-on-year reductions in Crime of over 10%.• Responsible for a series of multi-million pound service review programmes, involving the management of senior service review teams and the remodelling of management systems for improved service provision at lower cost. Service areas reviewed included Highways, Waste, Street Scene and Health & Safety.• Project manager for the implementation of Doncaster’s new Culture and Leisure Trust. This resulted in improved collaboration between organisations, improved customer performance and a saving of £400,000 per annum to the Council. • Responsible for Public Research programmes into the views of residents, with the results acting as a key source of improvement for a number of key services.

• Part of the team that supported the entire organisation and local Strategic Partnership to performance manage itself versus its priorities; this work included the development of service planning across the Council, negotiations with government on targets, the monitoring of service performance and system development.• Co-author of a series of operational strategies to further improve performance, including our Cleaner Neighbourhoods and Vehicle Crime strategies.
