A few moments, early in Chris Thomson's career, influenced the way he worked, forever. He watched a Control Room emergency response in action, where every button-press and command to keep people safe, depended on systems that Chris had helped build. Over those slow seconds, years of work were tangibly measured and judged. Chris learned to appreciate the intensity of high-stakes situations, where human meets technology; a place where everything must work first time, every time. Chris, a Chartered Engineer, holds a Masters Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Over his 20-year career in the energy industry Chris has taken technology from specification to operation. He grew up in Scotland, and was broadened culturally through deployment in South America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, landing finally in Australia. Chris is the Digital Field Services Manager for Woodside Energy Ltd, working with professionals that challenge and inspire him. He's proud of his team of engineers, specialists, and technicians, who make sure radios, alarm systems, telecom back-haul and carrier services, IT and network services all stack up to seamlessly support the emergency and operating communications services needed to safely run Woodside's energy production assets.He believes in the potential of people. He keeps an eye on value, and on the horizon, seeking better ways of sustaining and improving telecom services on remote, high risk, or sometimes ageing sites, without impact to people on the front line.
