~ Passionate about circular systems, inspiring people, and climbing mountains to ski down them ~In 2018, I was traveling around the world documenting 'adventures with purpose' and suddenly, the sanitation problem on Mount Everest jumped to the top of my list of things to care about. With over 26,000lbs of human waste left in open pits - every single climbing season - it was time to find a solution for the suffering environment, local communities, and ultimately, preservation of the tallest mountain in the world.So, our team of ambitious entrepreneurs founded the nonprofit Do Good Sh*t. Since then, we have been on a mission to reduce the harmful impacts of human waste through education and the implementation of proper sanitation systems.From 3 months of field research getting our hands dirty while exploring the best toilet technology available (literally, some of the most humbling work I have ever done) to traveling to Torres del Paine to install our first three sanitation units, it became clear that this unconventional path of entrepreneurship was more than useful, but essential.So much so, that a market opportunity presented itself, and our team double-downed in the sanitation space. Innovation informed by nature led us to the founding of waste*development, a benefit corporation laying the foundation for the circular sanitation economy. With ecological sanitation in mind, we have developed a novel approach to source-separation technology (yes, the separation of #1 and #2) and aim to use this patented technology to drive advanced resource reclamation processes. In other words, we are embarking on an incredible waste-to-value play, essentially turning our human waste into valuable end products like fertilizers and building materials.As our world evolves, and our climate continues to change, I am left wondering what I can do to push the needle towards a sustainable future?
