Working behind the bar within a busy student centred bar during both weekdays and weekends, my responsibilities included:• Serving various drinks, from craft beer to cocktails to customer ensuring I offered a friendly service at all times• Maintaining a clean bar area at all times during my shift• Understanding where various beers, spirits and wines came from so I could recommend to customers the correct drink even when I personally did not drink the drinkSkills developed:This experience helped me to develop my ability to work with people from different backgrounds. Some of the customers could on occasion be verbally abusive, so I learnt how to deal with difficult situations, to think quickly and to keep calm under pressure, how to handle myself in a way that kept myself and those around me safe. I also learnt how to refuse service to people who had drank too much learning how to approach the situation in a way that kept tensions low. Overall I found this a highly rewarding experience

Aug 2015 - date Waiter, Pizza Hut (Leicester and Birmingham) Working within a busy Pizza hut store part-time, my responsibilities include:• Efficiently and professionally dealing with customer enquiries, answering questions and investigating and resolving any issues• Due to my longevity within the store in Leicester I was often responsible for helping train new members of staff on how to operate different parts of their jobs• Assisting with cashing up of myself at the end of the shift, making sure any discrepancies are resolved• I was also lucky enough to be included in a group known as ‘planning couch’ in which we aimed, with no budget, to promote our own store outside of the main Pizza Hut promotions, this included local advertising, establishing business connections and building a loyalty within the locals. Skills developed:I am confident and enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-serving role, and providing an exceptional level of customer service at all times, even in a complaint situation. I am a natural team player, which has been enhanced in this role where I work effectively as part of a team helping everyone know what is happening when and where. I have also developed leadership skills both during ‘planning couch’ and whilst helping train new staff.

My responsibilities included, time management, meeting sales targets and being organised. I had to make sure the stock room was organised and when customers needed a product that I could provide it and if not I had to be able to advise on a suitable replacement. I worked as part of a team, learning to cope with various situations to the best of our ability and working together to support each other.
