At the same time, striving to provide a correlation system that stacks key events and metrics in an easy to use and visually appealing format.- Build out an Indexing and aggregation cluster using Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana that aims to index over 1 Billion Documents per day in near real time (<10s delay). The goal is to provide immediate visibility into code changes as they are pushed out into the wild, at the same time providing access to data that previously took weeks to prepare. -
Senior Systems AdministratorPrimal Apr 2011 - Apr 2013Kitchener, Ontario, CaAs part of the IT Operations team, I managed and maintained an internal server infrastructure that is 99% virtualized using VMware ESX and ESXi internally and Amazon Web Services for Production and Stage.IT Ops participates in the flow of development versions from a Linux stage environment to the Production Linux environment in the Amazon Cloud. Leveraging open source solutions for Monitoring (Nagios, Graphite, Collectd, jmxtrans, graylog2, logster and Munin), Deployment and Configuration Management (Puppet), Database, Web Apps and out of the box Shell/Python/Ruby scripts for management as well as custom written scripts in Python, Ruby or Bash for just about any purpose. I spearheaded and implemented the re-design of our internal and external monitoring systems (The end result was a real time view instead of a 5 minute offset), our internal build systems (I moved us from a hybrid TeamCity/Jenkins Build environment to a full Jenkins Continuous Integration environment with numerous build slaves). I furthered the 'Environment per department' philosophy, ensuring that everyone from Research to Dev to QA has a fully functional environment to develop against and test against.I supported a variety of end user Operating Systems including various versions of Linux, Mac and Windows along with Commercial and Open Source Productivity software and communication applications ensuring consistent functionality in an Agile Development environment.Projects included: - Migrating from SVN to GIT with an internal Gitorious Server. - Replacing the existing Release/Deployment process/code with a more streamlined, easier to extend version. This change allowed for sub-minute deployment times of the corporate website and reduced the time to spin up new back end servers from hours to under 10 minutes. -
