My project was to plant native trees and bushes in a local park to help seclude it from the new highway construction. Over the course of 5 months I had to organize various aspects of the project, including materials, volunteers, and timelines. I also had to get the project approved by local and scouting officials.1. Researched different Eagle Scout opportunities by contacting local organizations such as parks to determine what project would benefit everybody in the community.2. Itemized what types of plants and materials would be required to ensure that the project is successful at reducing the visibility of the highway from the park.3. Created a detailed cost spreadsheet based on the current market value of the required materials to have a reliable cost estimate to present to the United Way in hopes of receiving funding.4. Developed a detailed presentation and enlisted the help of other scouts to present in front of a board of United Way members to receive funding for the project, improving public speaking skills.5. Lead scouts and volunteers to plant over 350 trees and bushes in the park over the course of two days.6. Dedicated portions of the weekend to observe and water the plants to ensure their survival throughout the hot and dry summer, resulting in minimal losses to the trees.
