Lolita, My LoveThe York Theartre Company @St. Peter'S Church Feb 2019 - Mar 2019Book and Lyrics by ALAN JAY LERNERMusic by JOHN BARRYEdited by ERIK HAAGENSENScore Reconstruction/Music Direction by DENIZ CORDELLDirected by EMILY MALTBYBased on the novel "Lolita" by Vladimir NabokovBased on the 1955 novel Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. Lolita, My Love, which originally closed in Boston in 1971, closely follows the legendary novel: a college professor named Humbert Humbert becomes fascinated by and starts to seduce his landlady's young daughter, Dolores "Lolita" Haze. The fascination quickly turns into obsession, and soon a whirlwind race across the US begins. ”For this Mufti presentation, Erik Haagensen (Darling of the Day in Mufti) has edited together a new script from Lerner's assorted drafts, each vastly different from the others. Haagensen has stated that “Now audiences will have a chance to hear [Lolita] on stage and decide for themselves what they think of this unquestionably daring musical that begins as a black comedy and ends in tragedy.” Nabokov himself said “Mr. Lerner is most talented and an excellent classicist. If you have to make a musical of ‘Lolita,’ he is the man to do it.”Box office: Phone: (212) 935-5820boxoffice@yorktheatre.org

Inaugural Industry ReadingThe Testament Of Mary Oct 2015 - Oct 2015Controversial Broadway Drama Testament of Mary Reconceptualized An industry reading of a re-conceptualization of Colm Tóibín's The Testament of Mary, the one-woman play that ran 27 previews and 16 regular performances on Broadway in spring 2013, will be presented Oct. 1.Conceived and directed by Michael Rader, the reading will feature five different women sharing the title role of Mary, each representing how different cultures around the world view her.Tony winner Adriane Lenox will be joined by Lynn Cohen, Jill Paice, Elizabeth Kemp and Thursday Farrar. The five women will share the title role of the mother of Jesus, a part that was originally played by Fiona Shaw in the Broadway and London productions. The New York production was met with protests from Catholic groups. Catholic Protesters Return for Broadway Opening of The Testament of MaryThe stage production is based on Tóibín's novella of the same title, which, according to press notes, "explores Mary’s interpretation of her son’s life, one in which she questions his death, divinity and followers in the years following his crucifixion."Rader said in a statement, "The concept of presenting Testament with multiple women playing the title role first developed after reading Mr. Tóibín’s notes on his inspiration for the text where he speaks to how the idea of Mary varies greatly according to different sources. We actually garner little and often contradictory information about Mary from the bible - the gospels wavering considerably as to Mary’s role and engrossment. What is undeniable is that this is a woman who witnessed firsthand the horrific torture and murder of her son. By marrying different ethnicities and backgrounds into the tapestry of the character we are able to convey her story in a uniquely candid and accessible manner.”Joe Grandy of Reclaimed Road Productions produces the reading. joe@ReclaimedRoad.com and or visit reclaimedroad.com for more information.

She is an extremely, strict, religious woman of faith who believes that homosexuality is one of the most deplorable sins. She hasn't spoken with her son in the three years since he came out to her.
