As a student dietitian, I was able to manage several different caseloads including Surgical, Palliative Care, Acute Elderly Care and Acute Medical Unit to deliver a professional level of dietetic service to patients under the provision of my supervisors. I also had the opportunities to witness other complex cases including enteral feeding and total parental nutrition in patients staying in ICU. I attended case conferences on the Surgical and ICU ward, Department Professional Development case studies, shadowing over MDT members and participated in additional interprofessional workshops to further enhance my skills and experience as a dietitian. In addition, I am highly proficient with utilising ieMR, Patient Flow and PI5.

I completed an integrated placement in Clinical and Foodservice at the Ipswich Hospital. The Foodservice project involved conducting a full menu review of the Paediatric menu, comparing the Queensland Health Nutrition Standards for Meals and Menu (QH NSMM) and New South Wales Agency of Clinical Innovation (NSW ACI) against current practice and add carbohydrate servings on the menu card to assist patients and nursing staff with insulin dosing. From this, I developed and implemented recommendations to align current practices with the guidelines. The data collected from this project involved a gap analysis of the menu and additional in-services on the ward including a menu review survey and plate waste audit. I conducted a food list analysis to obtain the amount of carbohydrates before converting them into 15g of carbohydrate exchange. Throughout the project, I liaised with multiple stakeholders to update them on the progress and negotiated ideas and strategies. I implemented the key recommendations on the paediatric menu in collaboration with the patients and hospital’s facilities and needs.

My Dietetics Community Placement involved providing sports nutrition education to elite adult soccer players at the Brisbane City Football Club. This included sufficient nutrition for pre-, during and post-exercise and adequate hydration to optimise their recovery as well as performance. The key roles undertaken in this placement included working as a dietitian to deliver evidence-based sport nutrition and creating education materials such as posters, videos and education sessions - working in collaboration with stakeholders of the club. Throughout this placement, I was able to demonstrate efficient and effective verbal and non-verbal communication from liaising with the stakeholders and report writing.
