Profile bio

About Tiago Dias

I'm a reporter, an editor and a film and music enthusiast.Born in the south of Portugal, I moved north to study Journalism in Porto. Those years, when the limit was a self-imposed one, showed me how free a person could be in this area. They also showed me a journalist needs to constantly be improving in order to stay relevant. After my BA, I did an internship as a press officer at the International Crisis Group in Brussels and then continued working for the NGO as a consultant in South America before going back to Porto to help manage JornalismoPortoNet's newsroom. Meanwhile, I did translation work for Human Rights Watch and got my Master's degree in International Politics from SOAS in London. Also did a stint of volunteer work at An-Najah University in Nablus, West Bank, and taught English in Celendin, Peru.In the early 2010s, I provided Oxfam with the Portuguese case study for their report on the consequences of austerity in Europe and learned a lot from the Council of Europe's MEDIANE programme for diversity inclusiveness and equality. As a journalist who is excited about the future of media and who is always looking for challenging opportunities around the globe, I currently work for the Portuguese News Agency. Since starting at Lusa, I have covered dozens of local, national and international events, like the Constitutional referendum in Morocco in 2011.I have studied Middle Eastern and North African history and politics, subjects I follow wherever I go. I am a Portuguese, English, Spanish and French speaker, proficient in audio and video shooting and editing. For a while, I wrote a newsletter (in Portuguese) on foreign affairs, which gathered a few hundred - veery dedicated - subscribers. As so much in the profession, regularity was a challenge. Ever try, ever fail.

Listed skills include Journalism, International Relations, Politics, Newspapers, and 28 others.
