I am a psychiatrist and a researcher with over 15 years of experience studying and treating psychiatric disorders. Currently I am the CEO of Pasithea Therapeutics, a biotech company developing new drugs for the treatment of psychiatric and neurological disorders.I am also a senior fellow at Imperial College, London and a clinical lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London.My research focuses on using brain imaging techniques such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and MRI to focus on the neurobiology of mental illness and the identification of novel treatment targets. I had the privilege to run pioneering studies and conduct the first-in-patient visualization of several brain receptors such as the Adenosine 2A (A2A) receptor, the alpha-5 GABA-A receptor and the phosphodiesterase 10A enzyme (PDE10A). More recently I have focused on developing ways to treat mental illness, repurposing drugs used for other pathologies. In order to conduct these studies, I have been successful in obtaining over 6 million GBP (8.3M USD) in research grants from several funding bodies, such as the Medical Research Council, the largest funding body of biomedical research in the UK.I am an author of over 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals in the leading scientific journals in psychiatry and neuroscience, and have co-authored international treatment guidelines and book chapters, including the leading book in the field: “Neurobiology of Mental Illness.”My research has been recognised by many awards, such has the NARSAD Young Investigator Award, the Royal Society of Medicine Award and the Schizophrenia Research Society Award. My passion lies greatly within finding a cure for those suffering with mental illness and this is the driving force behind my research and the work I continue to do.
