In project PAWWS, I continue to develop current understandings concerning how to establish roadmaps toward sustainable, regulated work for humans and dogs in Finland within the discipline of Animal Organization Studies.

I guide potential assistance dog teams through the process of getting officially qualified under the new German legislation. This involves assessing their application, supervising their theoretical exam, planning their practical exam route and needs, supervising the practical exam, and marking their 360 video footage to allow examiners to assess key points. A key aspect of this is also my work with Asana, through which I created a high-impact and detailed workflow to allow all exams to be processed in an efficient and timely manner. Teams use the theory exam book which I was the primary developer of to prepare for their exams and part of my job is to keep this up to date. I absolutely enjoy this work and love seeing so many outstanding teams.

I am head of communications at Pfotenpiloten. In addition, my practical knowledge as an experienced assistance dog trainer, as well as my academic anthrozoological knowledge plays a key role in developing any of their educational material about assistance dog teams which is made available to assistance dog handlers and the general public. My focus here is on the well-being and education/training of the team as a whole (human and assistance dog). If is my top priority that both not only benefit from being in a team, but contribute to it in an ethical manner which agrees with their personalities and needs. That is where my anthrozoological education, as well as my years of experience as an assistance dog trainer, join in order to approach these topics from a practical and academic standpoint.

Europe

As a Junior Fellow in the Global Research Network's Animals and Biodiversity Think Tank programme, I partake in lovely collaborations. Three other Junior Fellows and myself organise meaningful monthly events and related projects, as well as provide resources concerning animal studies, using an interdisciplinary, international perspective. These efforts include sharing updates on current and upcoming events, as well as publishing a wide range of resources that are relevant to each month’s theme, including working papers, blog posts, publications, and recommended readings. Our aim is to initiate and support policy change surrounding the topics we address. Monthly events often take the form of roundtables, workshops, a Conversations series, and interviews.

As founder and owner of Humanima, I have been writing articles about human-animal interactions and relationships since 2012. Humanima covers a broad range of topics from education about animal training (as well as "how-to's"), philosophical musings about the human-animal bond (or lack their of, at times), trick training, assistance dogs, a full-length series on the Humanima Youtube channel showing how I tamed mustangs, conversations about our shared daily lives with animals, book and film reviews in the field and much more. Humanima also partnered with a small business in Takaungu, Kenya, who made handcrafted collars and leashes which were then sold in Germany through Humanima's website. This partnership supported the craft of beading which Kenya is so well-known for, as well as offer individuals very high quality pieces for their dogs.

I have been offering my services as a dog trainer since 2003. My specialty is in teaching dogs advanced tricks and manoeuvres, working with groups of dogs, coaching my clients to achieve a better communication and bond with their dog/s and, above all, I have been a successful assistance dog trainer for 6 years. My work was featured on two different German TV stations and three different newspapers about my work. I also performed at a Parelli Savvy Spotlight in Reno, California in front of 3,000 people to demonstrate how to work with a horse and dog together in a harmonious manner.

California And Germany

As a horse trainer I offered lessons in natural horsemanship, tamed wild mustangs in California before finding them good homes and practiced natural dressage. In Germany, I worked with a breeder of Arabian horses and gave their colts foundation training. I also offered horsemanship lessons in Germany along with exercising my clients' horses.

For six years I ran my own assistance dog school where I trained guide dogs for the blind. Some of my work included choosing clients, selecting the puppies, working very closely with my breeders, raising the puppies, training all of the dogs from their foundation training until they were fully-trained guide dogs for the blind, as well as coaching and developing the assistance dog teams completely and long-term. I also worked closely with the german health insurance throughout, ran the business end of things, managed social media, was featured in three different German newspapers and two different television shows about my work.

At Beekind I worked in sales where I became very knowledgeable about bees and their hives. I helped beekeepers find the tools and information they needed for their bees, informed customers about the raw, local honey, wax and other products from bees which the store offered.
