Accumulator Senior Lead
CurrentMFE is a student-led team composed of approximately 300 members that designs, manufactures, and races an electric formula-style car. We have consistently achieved high scores in the Engineering Design category at the Formula SAE Series (1st place in 2023).– Responsible for the full design, integration, manufacturing, and analysis cycle of the car’s accumulator (600V Li-Po battery pack) including the interconnection and configuration of 132 individual battery cells, BMS installation and packaging, and pack outer protection and cooling systems– Selected the most appropriate cells to configure into an energy-dense accumulator that meets various team targets including pack capacity, thermodynamics, and mass through research, simulations, and tests.– Designed and manufactured a lightweight CFRP container for battery pack protection and air cooling.– Performed high-temperature tensile and compression tests on composite laminates and adhesives to characterize their mechanical properties at 60 Celsius.– Manage project deadlines, sponsor relations, and budget to meet MFE24’s team goals and timeline.– Manage a team of 10 members and recruited and taught new members about our battery pack design and manufacturing processes.
