Utilizing research-based strategies to deliver structured science lessons, I enabled students to master Georgia Performance standards, resulting in exceptionally high test scores during my last three years as a classroom teacher. I was honored to be sought out to teach this six-week summer program designed to give inner-city students a jump start on the upcoming school year's curriculum. My contribution was introducing students to the field of forensic science to expose students to the cells and genetics life science units in a fun and relevant way. After teaching the foundation of forensics, I guided the students in setting up a crime scene, collecting evidence, analyzing data, identifying suspects, setting up a mock trial at the Fulton County Superior Courthouse, and setting a verdict. At the close of the program, several students indicated an interest in pursuing a career in forensics.
